Hey guys,

Looking for pictures from those of you with FMIC's on your sport sedans. Looking to see how the piping can be ran, sizes of pipes, cores, etc.

Thanks!

Nope, thanks anyways.

Anybody running a FMIC?

I saw a turbo wagon recently that was a total sleeper. It had a black FMIC that seemed to be exactly the right sized core for the lower opening (below the bumper). The guy driving it was at least in his fifties...

My suggestion would be... talk to Andy and David... They will both give you good advice.

David told Andy how to do it... and davids looked really good on the blue car (you know, the one that lasted all of a week).

And Nick, I know you dont like Andys FMIC... But its his car and he did a very nice job.

Can you imagine that, someone with an IC on their old Legacy, in their fifties! Must be in a midlife crisis or male menopause.

I dunno how old Subtle is, but he has a mean leg with a stealth fmic and he is up around there. One cool guy.

Or with a very very very nice Autronic system and an STi 6mt?

So which is it, midlife crisis, or male menopause.

Sounds like my pops driving the SS but I'm on the other side of the US & he did not want me paint the FMIC black.

I have a few FMIC/EJ20G pics, but I'm too dumb to post them....

I may have the stealthiest FMIC there is. With slim fans and moving the radiator back about an inch, there was enough room for a 3.5" core. The core itself is 24x6.5x3.5. If I wanted to, I could flatten the tabs on the back of the bumper beam and go straight down with a larger core, which I plan on doing when I go to a 35R next summer.

Dan,

I like your vacuum pump re-route for the cruise control ;)

Now if it would only work!! I didn't think about switching the wiring harness in the dash when I swapped it. The dash was out of an auto SS and my car is a manual L. It doesn't even turn on. I have everything hooked up but I get nothing.

It does other weird stuff, such as the trunk light, which I never even knew existed, is on unless I turn the headlights on, then it turns off. :smt017

I just need to do some real trouble shooting, when I get the time. I'd rather get that VLSD in first....

SubaruNation is going to post the pics for me.

They will show the ebay GC8/GF8 FMIC kit with 31"x 12"x 3" (about 26"x 12"x 3" core) intercooler mounted on the SS with ej22t, then the same FMIC kit on the EJ20g.

To get this FMIC to fit on a SS/ej22t 1 pipe had to be redone, while the other 3 were able to be used with slight mods. The pipes exit/re-enter the engine compartment via a 3" hole (My buddy has big holesaws!) behind each headlight.
We reworked all of the pipes (4 solid pipes 6 connectors used in the whole system) & relocated the battery to the trunk to get a nice fit on the EJ20G, but I could have gotten away with a new coolant tank.
Note: The EJ20G pics were taken the day after we swapped that engine in & redid the pipes (Measuring/cutting & TIGing Aluminum Tubes together + swapping a motor = A LONG DAY!), so the FPR & Coil pack brackets had not been made yet, but you can see the custom coolant tank bracket that allowed space for the I/C tubing.

All of the pics were taken before I had a chance to sand & polish the tubes so they are not their prettiest form.

I notched the bumper beam to create a pocket for the FMIC to fit behind. It would have been easier to just chop the center section of the beam off all-together, but there is still alot of beam to cushion the IC core from morons who can't parallel park the way I did it.

If I had to do this over again I would have mounted this the way my buddy wanted to with the inlet/outlet on the top of the IC core (an easy 2.5-3' less tubing) instead of going for the more bolt-in way we mounted it.

Overall I'm happy with the kit & to my surprise did not notice any additional lag when used with the VF11 on the ej22t - & I was looking for / expecting lag.
It responded very well with the EJ20G/TD04 set-up, & is still being used with the 16G.

My FMIC was pretty good. You REALLY had to look for it.

I bet that silver T-wagon was Subtle.

here is an outside shot

Image

if i painted the core black it would definitely be a little stealthier... but i love the way it looks

its a modified blitz kit with a a piece or two of a perrin pipe so i didn't have to weld a BOV bung onto it (teh aluminum welding>me)

those pics are mid install so ignore all the random crap lying around and missing intake.

and for the battery since the pipe runs right through where the battery goes i ended up using a smaller honda battery because i'm too lazy to move it to the trunk

Theres enough room under the headlights to sneak em through, if you dont mind sacraficing the bumper beam.

Brandos sportin my fogs :)

And this is the EJ20H intake plenum. Sits up high enough to run the pipes through after bending the fuel lines a bit.

Image

This pic doesnt show very well, but the IC pipes go straight down through the trays the Batt and ABS unit sit on. Lots of room there if your down with doing a bit of relocation.

From what I found with my swap, the cruise computer needs to match the type of trans. The relays are different, and cause it not to work. I think you could probably rig something up, but at the time I decided to just swap the cruise computer since I had one at my disposal.

Yeah it sounds like you have some weird gremlins at work. But I agree.....VLSD is probably worth putting in first.

I do have the auto cruise control computer sitting in a box somehwere. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot. Now if it was easy to get at without pulling the dash back

Here's mine- made from half a f350 intercooler and press bent exhaust pipes. Total cost under $300. However it is totally ghetto.

Thanks for the replies guys! So the general consensus is going with a GC8 spec kit and making it fit? As apposed to going with a 02+ WRX kit?

Thanks again! You guys rock!
