That whole "brand awareness" thing. A friend from school worked on the design changes for the federalized Skyline (I guess mainly changing the dashboard or something). His talent is way beyond this ugly car.

yeah, the new skyline is stellar in function, but the appearance is kinda crap to me. I still would still shit myself if one was driving by me, but it wouldn't be for the styling. It would be for all the gadgetry under the skin.
My personal favorite would be the R33 GT-R Skyline.
YES!!!!!!!!

Ditto. The only other Skyline body style that comes even close to comparable:
Otherwise, they're all bollocks.

And VW and Audi. Car designers are an incestuous, closed-off bunch. They're usually only slightly more talented than fashion designers and that's what happens when you isolate yourself with a one-track mind instead of drawing inspiration from everything as any real designer would. They're also tend to be very arrogant and boring. I like cars and I couldn't stand talking to many of them as that's the only thing they know, and really, they don't even know cars as well as they should.

Ugh. The next person who calls the new GTR a Skyline should be shot. Up to the R34s, the GT-R was a high-tuned Skyline. But after 04 or 05, the Skyline became what we know as the Infiniti G35 (if you saw an '06 Skyline on the street you probably wouldn't notice), and the Skyline GT-R went on a vacation (a few special editions surfaced, but "limited" would be an understatement). For the R35 GTR, the car is so radically different than the relatively boring Skyline/G35 that it wouldn't make sense to put it in the same model family.
Now that my (possibly mis-informed) rant is out of the way, I LOVE the new GTR's style! Say what you will, but it's certainly unique (trivial similarities not withstanding), and it certainly looks like a superbeast straight out of Japan without the "suicidal street tuner" image of the Evo or STI.

Skyline Skyline Skyline!!! haha, okay shoot me! lol
And yea the G35s are kinda skylines, but whateve...
We still call the 2008 WRX's Imprezas, when they are sooooo off from what the used to be. Okay, well kinda... at least in the styling catagory lol.

None of the pics work for me by the way.
I don't find the styling in any way unique. It looks like a factory-rice 350Z to me.
And I do not consider this a Skyline, because Skyline = inline 6 to me.

Don't care how fast, it's ugly, heavy, and antiseptic relying on over-engineering to overcome bad design. Dinosaurs were biggest just before the asteroid hit (I'm not completely sure that's true, assuming the asteroid hypothesis is correct, but it sounds good).

It's better than calling all the WRXs STi's. That's what all of my friends have a habit of doing when I start talking about my Legacy.
"Why didn't you just save up for an STi? They look cooler."

c'mon they're not that bad... they beat out every car in their catagory xcept the bmw.
and we know, this would be much easier if we would all just agree with you.
on the other hand, if you have an STi then just dont be a D-bag thats all

THEY ARE DINOSAURS. Yes, they are all heavy, stupid, pigs. Aerodynamics are a joke, shape is done my marketing (even this aesthetic abomination, believe it or not), not intelligence. You waste all that stupid horsepower punching a giant hole through the air for no reason (not even aesthetics in this case, an old Ferrari I can see, but they thought they were somewhat aerodynamic back then).
They add all sorts of useless crap in a car that I don't even need in my house. You waste all that stupid horsepower and torque hauling around an entire living room entertainment center with you wherever you go.
They're isolated from the feel of driving! This is supposed to be a fun car, a sports car. Sports cars are supposed to be in tune with the the road. you want just moron speed without feedback, play a video game. Weight blunts feel in several layers, from the weight itself to compromises that need to be made to tires, suspension, and steering to compensate for that living room. My 1984 Subaru was more fun than this and I don't have to drive it to know - 2100 lbs., manual steering, skinny tires, performance you could use 100% of much of the time, looks that got no attention, small enough to fit through gaps, cheap to run, and no worries when parked.
I guess they're perfect if you can't think for yourself, need an identity marketing departments come up with for you, love wasting money, and giving it to the Arabs.
There is ONE intelligent vehicle. I've mentioned it before - Aptera.
The asteroid has hit, dinosaurs. Evolve into light weight birds or die.

If you're the kind of person who thinks an '84 Subaru that can be pushed to 100% in daily driving is more fun than a 480hp Grand Tourer (the new GTR isn't supposed to be a sports car by the way) that can set records at Nurburgring, then I think you're the kind of person that they specifically don't want to make cars for.
A fun-to-drive stripped-down econo box would have to sell for a few nickels and a paper clip. On the other end of the spectrum, a high-horspower bragging right that's also a mobile entertainment and gives you an inflated sense of self on the track and lots of attention in parking lots can sell for a random number the dealer pulls out of his ass.

it's called a generational gap.
.....people's interests change, along with their ideals and needs.

Yeah. The GT-R is really just a name now, and some people will pay anything to own it.

I guess it's cool that it could qualify as a "Super Car", but will be more affordable than a true "Super Car".
Other than that, I don't like it.

It has nothing to do with generations. Old geezers would feel the same way about big engines. It's the fact that time is up for these cars and they can be lazy and design the same old and pretend the sun isn't being blacked out, but that doesn't make it true. There are talented people somewhere, but they are being squashed by committees selling products that don't evolve to people who can't evolve. $10/gallon will make a joke of these cars and I'll laugh driving by getting either 130-100 mpg in an Aptera or 50-80 in something I built myself, all the while driving the hell out of it and loving every minute. I actually like to drive, not impress car geeks and get handjobs from cheap sluts, but to each their own.
Regardless of all that, it's an ugly car.

ya it does... Marketing
so are you coming from a terchnological prespective or what b/c then i would agree with you a little more.
in that way, anybody can slap a turbo on any engine and make it faster (duh).
there just are not enough disruptive technologies in the car market right now, and there won't be with how much our dear FED decides to un-necessarily spend, and with the completely drowning price of the dollar.
from a different angle though (again lol) why kill a good thing?
now, if the car somehow managed 40+ mpg AND had the same capabilities, then we would have a car.
until then, the corvette will still take that trophy (for power/mpg ratio)

Just out of curiosity Steve, how old are you?
I ask because of a web seminar I watched on different generations in the work force and that the gen-x crowd doesn't like to be marketed to.....and/or completely miss the intended purpose of the ad/commercial by disecting it to pieces. I definitely fit into that category...
BTW, I tend to agree with you. The current way of thinking in the automotive industry will go by the way of the dinasour. The problem that keeps a logical well thought out plan from moving forward....or even starting IMO is politics......there's so much money and politics tied up in the oil industry that it will take a complete world breakdown for things to change.
Most of the fru-fru bullshit the government and public are trying to do to combat "climate change" are stop gap measures that won't equate to much change.

ya it's kinda like 1970 all over again, not that i was around then...
just in relation to the publicized oil "crisis"
