1994 JDM Legacy Wagon GT 2.0T Question

Hey,

My flatmate just got himself a Legacy Wagon GT, which is now rather old. 14 years.
Anyway, neither of us have owned them before, so I am on the bit of a hunt for some info for him - please help if you are able to.

There are no manuals for the car, so we have a few basic questions.
Its done 127000km, so not that many for a car of its age, and its an Auto 2L twin turbo.

The main question is about the central locking etc, does it have a factory immobiliser? The master key is electically not working anymore, so its just a standard key. The secondary key has a button on it, but I assume the battery is flat as it does nothing. When you lock the car with the key in the door, a few seconds later the car beeps once - what does that mean?
Its just when you use the key to lock the door, and you begin to walk away it makes a suttle little beep - the car that is, not the remote. Just wondering if this means the immobiliser has been activated? I am unsure - never owned a subaru.

It has heated leather seats. two positions for each heater switch... is one high and one low? It doesnt sort of indicate. Very dumb question I know.
The heated seats have 3 position switches, centre is off, and then either side. The light comes on for both options, but doesnt really indicate what they would be. I am thinking probably just low and high. Have only had the chance to drive it home, and its dark and 0 degrees outside at the moment so havent had time to have a play yet.

Does anyone know of a location of a user manual? I went on the my subaru .com website, but it only seems to work for USA people?

Just a few dumb questions, but I would appriciate the help.
Have been reading the other topics on the forum, some good stuff.

Basically am just wanting to know if a 94 Legacy Wagon 2.0 Twin Tubro AWD Automatic came with a factory immobiliser, and any info would be great.
The main reason for asking is insurance is requiring he puts in a dual immobiliser, and he has 2 weeks grace to do so - so we just want to check what it currently has it in and if an aftermarket on is needed. The Insurance company didnt know.

Thanks
J

Since you have a JDM car it will be very tough to find literature that will answer your questions. The manual that I have relates to USDM spec cars, and the vast majority of the people on this forum are in the same boat.

Heated seats are a rarity for the cars that came to America. Up to this point I have never heard of a Legacy of our generation that came from the factory with an immobiliser.

That being said I would not be surprised if the JDM one had it. Especially if the remote is integrated into the key.

We need to find a Japanese manual and a translator, OR an english speaking JDM owner that knows stuff. The latter is a more likely find. There will be someone around here that knows.

Good luck!

Rare... well, dont know about that... there are plenty of them over here.

I will try to take some pics soon, its dark when I get home from work at the moment, so the weekend will be the best time to take photos.
Ill take some inside and out.

In terms of manuals etc, thanks for the info - hopefully someone on here will be able to help out further.

Cheers
J

I'd recommend checking out www.rslibertyclub.org

You may find some more info there.

The main issue is that 1994 overseas models are not the same as the US 1994 models. Your 1994 MY would be comparible to our 1995 MY.

It might have an alarm that prevents the car from starting but a true immobilizer wasnt introduced until 2005.

I bet there is a go between harness plugged into the ignition switch and you could easily return it to "stock" by removing it.

I'm having a similar "immobilizer" issue regarding a 1993 JDM wagon that I have. The car has a key with a built in remote, like the op described, and the car will just crank and crank but never start. There is also now power to the window switches at first, but if left alone for a few hours, all the windows will work again until you start cranking it over again. Anybody have any ideas what the heck is going on?

Give me a little bit of time. I'm going to try and post the overseas factory manuals, and it has info in there regarding the imobilizer and diagnostics to test the system.

hell i think it would be worth it to just rip out the factory alarm and put in an aftermarket alarm... like a viper or something. I have nothing but good things to say about viper.
