Help - Car dies at 2700rpm

I am getting a complete fuel cut out (lean) at 2700 rpm under load. IF I dip the clutch and/or release the throttle the motor comes back to life
The tps is putting out 5 volts at throttle closed and .5 volts at open. A mechanic friend of mine says that is backwards. Any idea?
Thanks

What are your error codes if any? Check out your VSS (variable speed sensor) for signs of malfunctioning. Can you get it to run higher than 2700 rpms ? What year car/engine/tranny are you talking about ?
Good luck,
Chester

Sorry New to the forum concept.
We are going to pull the code tomorrow night.
The car is a 91 Legacy Turbo 2.2(i think)with a 5spd. If it helps it appears that the speedo is not working now. Is there a signal from the speedo to the computer?
THanks again

It's sounding as though you have a bad speed sensor (or the wiring going to it is damaged). However, you should pull the error codes and deal with any that you find first. Pulling the codes for this car just means plugging in the black connectors for static problems and the green connectors show errors while the car is in motion (you test the green plugs while driving the car for a while). It's all tucked away near your ECU to the left of the steering wheel. There is no scan tool necessary in case that's what you're waiting for.

Usually when your speed sensor is bad the car bucks under load and acceleration is choppy feeling. That and it will feel like a bad miss when at partial throttle but I've never heard of it killing the engine.
What you have could also be caused by your MAP sensor. I had a bad MAP once and as soon as there was positive manifold pressure the engine would die, off boost it was fine but as soon as boost came on, total shut down. If you're running the stock vf11 then boost is coming on before 2700 rpm so, it might not be the MAP but like stated above, the first thing to do is pull your codes, do a D-check and go from there.

The TPS signal is OK - these cars are backwards with 5v being closed throttle & Voltage dropping as the throttle opens.
The MAP sounds like a possible cause.
A leak of air metered by the MAF will cause trouble too - make sure there are no leaks between the MAF & your throttle body.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for all the great suggestions. Looks like it was the FCD that I had installed. It was working when I installed it and then I noticed that the cut indicator led was on all the time.
My speedo cable was also pulled out of the cluster.
Thanks again
