if not, anyone want to buy a 3.90 lsd??

You currently have an open 4.11 differential right? Take it apart, take the 3.9 lsd apart and swap carriers.

End result is an open 3.9 and a 4.11 LSD. I did this by myself with no special tools in my driveway (does a reverse torx driver count?). Keep everything else exactly as it was including the backlash spacers. You don't even have to loosen the pinion bolt!

Hmm, how long did this take you to do, are you sure a home mechanic can do it??

i just did my auto to manual swap with no problems, just no lsd anymore

Way easier than an auto to manual swap. You know how to take the differential out right? Thats the hardest part.

i know how to take it out, i put the new open diff in :(

so i open it up and just swap the clutch pack??

There's no clutch pack. It's a sealed viscous coupling.

It shouldn't be too difficult once you get everything out and see how it works....but without pictures, it's a little difficult to describe.

I've taken a couple apart, and its not too big a deal. If you can swap the carrier without removing the pinion that would be ideal, since the backlash would need to be set if you did remove the pinion.

Like they said no clutch pack. Only some of the pre Legacy Subarus had clutch based LSD. Yours is most likely viscous if not gear based.

Basically remove everything in the "back" of the differential and swap the largest internal part of one unit with the largest internal part of the other. I think there are about 12 bolts holding the ring gear to this part.

alright i may try this, but i am scared i will fudge it up, i dont want to ruin the tolerancees

When you do this swap, can you use the old LSD axles in the new 4.11 diff, or do you have to use different axles?

All of the axles should be female. All female R160 axles are compatible.
