ok i am posting this here hoping some one knows the answer to this question. I have a 1993 Impreza with dohc jdm heads on a special block. They came off of a high compression ej20 i have no idea what it's letter designation is, only that it is definitely an ej20, any way. I have phenolic timing gears on it and, it is n/a so i am still running the stock ej18 ecu. the car wont start after the swap, does any one have any pointers as to what i should look at first, i just got the motor in the car yesterday and tried to start it at 10:30 at night, it wouldn't start so i called it a night. i did absolutely no trouble shooting what so ever. any one have any tips or suggestions as to where to start? any insights as to electrical stuff i need to change would be welcome as well.
thanks
jeff

The phenolic timing gears are for the EJ20K engines with a different type of cam position sensor. The metal cam gears are directly compatible with the legacy.

Well, you can check the compression, but if the cam gears are made for a different sensor.. that'd certainly make the car not start.. :P

but if you've very low compression in one cyl, low compression in 2 cyls or 3 cyls and high comp in one.. your cam(s) may be out of time..

the answer to this question, was the idiot who put the intake on(me) forgot to install the ground, that kinda messes with the ecu.
