Hey guys,

I guess I'm a noobie on this forum, though I've lurked here for a bit.
Anyways, i just wanted to see what you guys think about this car.

Its a 1991 legacy L with 280,000 on the body, but with a new(ish) engine and transmission.
The body is reasonably straight for the age and the interior is clean except for a little damage to the drivers side armrest.

I think i can get the car for $1000-1200, so what do you guys think?
Is it worth it?

thanks,

-Nick

New(ish) as in NEW, or rebuilt, or recently installed used? Sedan or wagon?

$1200 is steep for the mileage, but if you can confirm the parts installed and their source(s) it may be worth your while.

Wave $800 cash at them, see if they bite, and if you're not experienced with cars or car repair, you might want to swing by a mechanic with the car to give it a pre-sale inspection.

The engine and transmission are from another car, I believe the engine has around 120k on it.

I have the name of the mechanic who preformed the work on the car, but haven't contacted him yet.

As far as mileage goes, is there anything else that is prone to fail besides engine, transmission, and clutch on a car this age with this mileage?

THere's other routine maitenance stuff that would probably need to be addressed with those kind of miles: wheel bearings, ball joints, struts....etc.

So just make sure you do your homework. I probably wouldn't give them over $500-600 as it would probably require some work to be made reliable. If they have maintenance records for it, and everything's been kept up, then it'd be worth more.
