I have been searching high and low for an SS that fits what im looking for but instead I found a local SVX which was calling to me.
Now im just waiting to get word from the owner so I can go look at it in person. Carfax shows this selling owner had the car for the last 12.5 years. Please feel free to chime in on the deal, or lack of. I am hoping this can be immediately used as a daily driver pending inspection at a dealer.
car was on ebay and had only a three day auction for some reason. Looks like i caught it 9 or so hours before it ended.

LINK TO CAR----
btw. i am still looking for an SS

.... and if anyone needs a carfax i have an account for less than a month for unlimited lookups.

Most of the ones I see are pretty hammered, but this one looks pretty nice.
As long as maintenance is kept up, I don't see why it wouldn't be a good daily, although I don't think I'd want to look at the gas pump while filling it up.

Nice find! Always wanted an SVX myself, but never found a decent one for a price I could afford.
Also. Kinda something that always makes me laugh. Car add and the car is freshly washed with wet concrete undernieth it. Saw one the guy even left the garden hose next to the car /rofl.

Well just to let everyone know. I went to look at the car today and I was seriously disappointed. Between the huge differences between what was posted and what I went to see, I just feel ripped off and lied to. The car was in bad condition. It was however AWD, but there was exposed wiring and panels falling off. The best part was when I confronted the person Sandy about it, she just went in her home and we were in the driveway like wtf just happened. I took pictures of everything, opened a dispute in paypal (which means i will never see my deposit ever again) and all I can do is hope that they will refund me my 500 for the deposit. crap....

Dirtbags. I feel your pain. I drove to Detroit (over 800 miles from here) to look at a turbo Legacy years ago that I was told was in great condition for its age with very little rust. Body-wise, the car was one of the biggest POS I ever looked at (and I looked at some junk yard fodder cars). The guy tried to protest that MA doesn't get snow like MI (maybe, maybe not, but irrelevant anyway) when I confronted him about it and showed him my 3 year older wagon and the very few spots of rust it had. But when I told him there was no way he could think all that bubbling paint he had was fine and asked him if he wanted me to put my fist through the rusted flakes he called a front fender, he conceded he probably shouldn't have told me it had very little rust. I think the thing was rallyed (either amateur or otherwise) and put away unwashed with heavy mud caking everything for years. He must have thought he had me after driving all that distance. I told him to screw and drove back home.
Didn't lose a deposit, but lost a night of sleep (drove after work Fri., got home Sat. night) plus the gas and tolls.

That sucks man. Sorry to hear it. Somepeople will say anything to try and sell their car. Remember one add Guy had a 98 gt special with two dented fenders, a crumpled hood, and warped rotars and he wanted "excellent" blue book value for the car.
Some peoples kids...

He took the pics in a matter so you can not see the defects. If paypal doesn't do anything contact your credit card company, which I hope you used instead of a bank account.

Damn, hope this works out for you... If your interested in picking up an SVX keep an eye out here;

If you have the ability I highly suggest getting one with a bad trans and fixing it. The prices are gonna be much lower and then you know what you have. I've seen so many people buy cars that shifted fine, only to have them go bad in short order afterwards.

I just drove one before I bought my Legacy. Interesting cars, but I'm glad I didn't go for one. With only 25K produced and 14K of those in North America, I knew parts scourcing would be a PITA. Researched them pretty good, even signed up at subaru-svx.net, where I read up about the poor 4EAT trying to move the 3500-lb weight... yikes.
Things like ABS sensors and brake caliper's prices closed the book on them. Cool cars but unless this is your project or secondary car, I'd keep looking. (If you still are!)
(If not there's one for sale in Batavia, NY for $3500 that I could link you and tell you all about.

I drove one before I got my LGT. Nice cars, but I'm much more a fan of the more modern interiors on the newer models.

The transmission is what ends up killing most of them... almost all of the donor cars I've seen that gave up engines for Vanagon swaps were in good shape with blown trannys.
It is possible to swap in a 5MT, the tooling for the pedals is on the firewall. Otherwise, a trans cooler is a must for any sort of longevity.

What is the deal with sports cars and auto trannys? Or turbo cars with auto trannys? I don't see the point. Nobody who buys a sports car or a turbo car wants an automatic. They buy them for the performance and with performance you want a manual tranny.
Why do they seem to sell more turbo cars with automatics? Why was the SVX only an auto car? What the hell were they thinking?

Not anymore. People buy performance cars to day for pose value over driving. Makes sense as today's performance cars are too fast to be useable on the crowded roads. Combine that with the laziness and stupidity of the general population that grows every day and you'll see the death of the manual. Personally, if I'm going to be saddled with the ancient tech of internal combustion, then I might as well enjoy it, which means a manual and I won't go to a clutchless vehicle until they're electric. The exotic makers are the biggest offenders and, of course, have the customer demographic of the biggest posers. Ferrari, especially, but their predominately ugly-ass cars and over-commercialization of their name makes them fit their customers perfectly.

The SVX was auto only because SUbaru decided that offering the 5-speed behind the H6 would likely result in too many warrenty issues. Especially in the sue-happy States.
In addition to Steve's usual, and expected, viewpoints stated above automatics are prefered by OEMs because they can be completely controlled through software. This makes an automatic easier to get through ever toughening smog requirements, fuel economy requirements, and yes, even safety requirements. They integrate better with systems such as ABS, traction control and stability control. You can add "paddle shifters" for pennies vs. a true sequential manual tranmission.
I still prefer a nice 5-speed, but you have to admit that *some* autos are getting really good. Unfortuanatly most of those are not in sub 40K cars.
