A little line drawing of a BG-5 (56k nogo)

So someone over on LegacyGT.com requested a linedrawing of a photo:
Image

And I figured I should be able to do it with my experience with photoshop. Here's what I have so far:

Image

I've never attempted to linedraw a car before. It's pretty fun, actually.

Not sure what to do with the headlights and tires. Neither of them have any real definition in the photo. The wheels should be easy. I'd love it if the original photo had the factory wheels in it, though. The doors and handles were tough. They aren't well defined in the photo, either, so I consulted some photos from other angles for the door lines, and just fuggered the handles.

Also going to redo the main outline of the body since the way I did it is rather sketchy. Hopefully it helps with the quality just a bit.

EDIT: Here it is after I've redone the main body outline and filled out one wheel and tire. It's pretty tough, but I think the rear wheel will go easier. After that it's just some fooling around with the headlights, and I'm done.

EDIT2:
I got fed up with the rear wheel. Can you tell? lol

I have about 2.5 hours into this one. It takes quite a bit of time when you won't settle for anything less than 85% perfect. lol

I could probably do t-shirts with it. I'm not sure I want to use this one, though. I'd like to have a larger image to start with, preferably one that I've taken (copyright issues).

The good news is I should be able to "color" this pretty easily, if I ever wanted to.

Well, I've had a look at tutorials in the past involving the pen tool. One specific one I liked used the rear of an RX7 for the example. That one is gone, now... but there are lots of tutorials you can find for this kind of stuff.

I'd start by learning the pen tool. Here are a few video tutorials:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87eHFPkcTEU (I like this one :P)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcIqx_ghBRI (This one is nice, too)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRRACCt6D48 (Car related)

Once you get acquainted with the pen tool, you may want to look into these tutorials, which are aimed more at cars than women. lol:

http://www.oman3d.com/tutorials/photosh ... g_lineart/
http://xd-designs.com/Tutorials/Vectorcar/vectorcar.jpg

I would aim at doing something simple, first. I just threw this together in like half an hour to work on my ability with the pen tool:

I'm going to see if I can manage anything decent with this one, next:

The license plate might pose a problem. Where's my x-ray vision when I need it?

Then this one:

...and probably this one:

I have larger versions of all of these. Goodbye, boredom.

Dude that's hardcore. I'd paypal you some money to do my cars! Would you consider??

I'm not sure I want to take money for it... but if you insist, I could do it for you... assuming you have some decent quality photos. It's really important to have well defined lines (especially in the back, unlike the first photo I used), and large photos tend to work better.

By the way, I've started on the black LGT. I'm about half an hour in. Here's where I'm at thus far:

I really love this stuff!

EDIT:
Tied together the wheels. These took about an hour total just because I got confused by the rear wheel reflections. Stupid chrome.

EDIT2:
Some "shading":

Front bumper progress. Most likely going to redo the passenger side fog bezel.

Headlights are (maybe) next.

Why didnt you get on the sedan t-shirt idea? You said you could do it but then never posted? What you have here looks pretty good to me.

I don't remember there being much interest. I guess I can do something on my own and cafepress it.

It'll be a pre-facelift SS with JDM BG5 wheels, though. :P

Vector style is basically a colored-in version of the lineart... without the lines. (Does that make any sense? lol)

sorry but are you like just tracing or something. looks sick as hell and maybe interested in a shirt :-D

lol. Thanks everyone. Yeah, basically I'm just tracing. It's not really hard or anything, it's just time consuming and tedious. But I enjoy it. I remember when I would always look for images like these for the cars I like, and now I'm forming my own collection. Haha.

Anyway, I'll get this one finished later tonight/early tomorrow morning. I needed a break, and now I have food to eat. :)
