Hi, new to Legacycentral. Have a 2000 B4 legacy and it feels like
the turbo does not kick in? At what RPM should it operate?

2500-3000 RPM's should get you some decent boost depending on what gear you're in.

Unless your actually on the gas pretty hard, the stock turbos on are car and yours rellly arent noticable it should be a small torque increase, but when you floor it you will notice it for shure, there really no reason your turbo shouldnt be working at all if everything else seems okay

Welcome to legacycentral. Although your car is a legacy, it is a newer version that ours are, and quite different in terms of turbo/engine setup, but I will try and help.

Your system is twin-turbo, where as we have the single turbo. With your setup, you should have boost almost immediately. Your primary turbo is a smaller VF26, and is designed to spool up very quickly and max out at about 6-7psi, this is where your secondary turbo should be fully spooled and provide the rest of the grunt. Maybe your primary unit is not well.

Try a hard acceleration and see if at some point the secondary unit takes over. Also does your car have a check engine light on, the ecu may be protecting the motor from a bad signal and not letting you boost very much.

Edit:second gen cars had VF13/VF14, third gen had VF26/27

yap or maybe your just feeling "Dead space" the time it takes the smaller turbo to switch to the larger one

Yeah it's a bit more than that. The VF-26/27 should give boost straight away, but then all the TT Leggies I've driven actually aren't as responsive as one might think. Then there is the VOD to take into account too.
I dunno, twin snails are weird creatures and with a zillion air lines running through the engine bay it makes me cry. Just push the throttle down as far as it will go.
