Dual intercooler, Mod idea...

I was thinking, with stock hood scoops and alot of us Going FMIC (including myself), Would there be any benefit going Dual intrercooled?
That means rigging up air to pass through the FMIC and modifiying a TMIC to the FMIC piping, Would there be massive lag?

A decent front mount should more than suffice. A top mount and a front mount will cause more pressure drop, and give you more heat soak when you are stopped. If you are worried about it, use a larger core in your front mount.

Also i wasent worried about performance, i was just wondering if i could "DOuble" my cooling power...

forget dual intercooling... it would only create more lag.
if you want cooler intake temps. spray your ic with water... or if you;re loaded. get some co2 or nos for it.

1.8t Audi TT's sort of did this with 2 small side mount intercoolers instead of the usual single side mount IC that is found on 1.8t Jettas - ? if there was enough room to put a proper FMIC on that car.

you could do it just make sure you use small turbo pipes and it will run with "all most" no lag, its a good idea.
i have maserati biturbo parts and they used such small pipes just to keep lag away, they are really nice as well.

You're still going to run into issues with heat soak. I'm almost done installing my water injection system on account of the underhood temps I was seeing with my TMIC.
Stopped in traffic, on a hot 90* summer day I was seeing upwards of 170* under the hood. Even moving on the highway at 55 mph I'd still see around 120*-130*. Albeit my temp probe is up behind where the AC comp. sit so it's not getting 'cool' air from the scoop directly but I think the point is still pretty clear - TMIC's
will get heatsoaked. Nothing like sitting in traffic and finally ending up on the line waiting for the light only to know you can't just gun it for fear of killing your motor

AWIC baby.....I love it. It still amuses me being able to touch the AWIC and it being luke warm on a hot day compared to everything surrounding it being scalding hot.
On a cold day the AWIC is cold to the touch.

I like your idea as we are experiencing some major heatsoak also. The heatsheild works a bit, but sitting still... is hot!!!

I use both a FMIC + Alky Injection (dual intercoolers) on the OBS-t, the SS, & the Starlet Drag Car!!!!!
Luke warm AWIC temps means intake temps are probably over 100*.
AWIC with an ice box reservoir = 32* intake temps all year long!!!!
I had a button rigged to my alky pump relay when I was TMIC that I would push (just a couple of quick taps of the button - NOT holding it "ON") while sitting in traffic & revving slightly to get intake temps down from the 140* (probe in the intake manifold) range to 87-90ish* in a few seconds, Meth is no joke!

I'd say intake temps slighly over 100 deg F with 95 deg F ambient isn't too bad.
When I get the link in and IAT sensor installed I'll be able see what sort of intake temps I really have.

A few degrees above ambient is good, but once you get a intake temp sensor on the car you may be surprised @ how hot or cool temps really are.

BXSS, I got my system finished yesterday and took it out for a spin. I noticed when I got back that my intake runners are still pretty hot to the touch - is this normal?
I am picking up some really nice insulation (my company makes aerospace composites and we have a lot of engine ducting) to put around the small resevoir that feeds into the pump itself. This res. is mounted on my strut bar on the turbo side of the compartment so I'm sure it's getting heat from that. I don't want to be injecting hot water.
But I was just curious if it is normal to have the intake runners still being hot?
For reference, I am using my windshield tank as the main res. and then using that pump as a priming pump to fill the 8 oz tank that is level with the injection pump. I'll have picks and a new thread tonight/tomorrow. I also plan to keep ice in the tank this weekend during Auto-X.

This is a bit off topic, so I'll PM you all the details.
But quick & dirty -
I heat wrapped the coolant bridge, & used Hondata intake manifold gasket for a WRX on my OBS-t to keep cyl-head heat from firing up the wrinkle red painted intake manifold.

When I was tuning for my new injectors right before that braod t-boned me, I was up to 10 degrees above off-boost temp. With my crappy short intake sucking in a ton of hot air, I was seeing 100 degrees at the throttle body. At 17psi I was at 109 degrees. Not bad for where my IC is placed.
If I would have built a cold air intake, I could have dropped the temps by about 15 degrees.

Ambient was in the high 80's. I just put this hood vent in a couple weeks ago. The effect was huge since the air going the my IC was fighting high pressure in the engine bay. The stock scoop wasn't helping that situation either. Last summer I would see temps up to 140 on long pulls.
The vent is a little ricy, but very functional. It gets more looks from people than I'd like, but oh well. Doesn't matter now

i all ways wanted to do that scoop but doesnt it suck it back in from the oem scoop? i wish they made revese scoops for my gc and the legacy turbo.
