Piece of gear tooth

Well I changed the trans oil from the Uncle Scotty mix to some valvoline 80w90 as a flush before putting in the Subaru Xtra-S fluid, and found a piece of a gear tooth stuck to the magnetic drain plug.

No idea what it's from. I haven't noticed any odd noises in any gears or any other issues. I'm pretty sure I'll be playing the busted tranny game when I finally get the Link in, but it's something I kind of expect. Don't really know if the Scotty mix contributed to this or not. Probably not. I did notice a little more metal shavings/goo on the magnet.

Anyway, here's some pictures

Yeah, don't worry about finding the problem - it'll find you for sure. I've found Subarus to have a near miraculous ability to self-heal, but I think regrowing a tooth is a little out of their range.

Yeah....I'm not really worried.....if the trans craps....it craps. That's why I have two vehicles. I don't think I ever could not have two vehicles. It's so convenient when stuff breaks or when working on things.

I wish I could afford a second vehicle right now :\

Is this the Legacy or the Impreza?

I'd not feel as bad if it were the Impreza. But if it were the Legacy, I'd be pretty steamed... after all that work.

Having multiple vehicles don't mean shit if they're all broken, just FYI ;)

Yes this was the Legacy.....and it is what it is. Not much I can do about it.

Yeah I know...if they don't work....it don't mean shit. I had this happen when I was working on the Impreza's ball joints/tie rods. The legacy was down at this time too.

Looks like you have an omen to start saving for a 6mt?

I'd probably just build the 5mt. I don't like the shorter gears in the 6mt.

I'm not going to be drag racing the car, and do drive it on the freeway for long trips, so I'd prefer not be spinning 3500 rpms at 80 mph.

I think right now, I'm at 90 mph @ 3200 rpms...or a little above

Don't do 4.111 gears then. I'm firmly at 3500rpms at 80mph.

I don't plan on it. I like my 3.900
