sorry, just venting a little bit, i was doing my timing belt for the sixth time tonite because the non oem crank seal shredded on me. as i was putting it back together i went to make sure that my tension idler pulley was torqued and then i here a pop, and my face goes red and steam slowly starts flowing out of my ears, ha ha not funny. so i pull out the bolt and there is threads on my bolt, aluminum ones. i will have access to a tap and die set tomorrow but what if that doesn't really work, plus, to go bigger would be difficult as there is a slider that goes over the bolt through the pulley, all ideas are appreciated,
Thanks Ryan

also i do have access to a machine shop but cant get my car there

If you pulled the treads out, a tap is not going to do you any good.

You will most likely need to drill the hole oversized and either heli-coil it or us a thread repair insert.

It's not that big of a job but can be intimidating for those that haven't done it before.

If I recall correctly, one side of the block has a removable casting to make up for the offset in the cylinder banks. If it's the same side as the hole you stripped, you can just unbolt the casting and do the work on the bench, or send it out to the machine shop.

Good luck.

That hole is DEEPER than the bolt you are using. Use a pencil and see how deep, then compare to the bolt, and you will see how much longer a bolt you can get in there. Been there, done that!

phyrra, your a genius man, and it does come off, 3 bolts kinda tucked away underneath the alternator bracket, thanks man, since this piece i took off is small and light somebody please tell me why the hell they didnt use steel or at least an insert, they made the alternator bracket out of steel???? i was thinking a different bolt however i would have to make one cause if you look closely you can see the bolt starts out larger than your average 10 mm, and seems to be machined for the sleeve, thanks to all you guys, i think i'll try a heli-coil tonite and get back to ya, thanks again phyrra

Can you be without your car for a couple of days? Pay Pal me $15 to cover the shipping and I'll send you another one. I only have like 2000 of them in my garage. Fuck trying to tap that piece...

I had to helicoil mine a while back. If you use an angle drill it's not too bad.
