Prevent bumper discoloration / melting?

After having my custom 3" exhaust on the car for a while, I've started to notice some discoloration of the bumper around the muffler. Specifically a light brownish color. For the most part it seems to come off with some rubbing (as seen in the pics), but I'm starting to worry that over time it'll become permanent.

Is there anything one can put on the area of the bumper to tastefully correct the issue?

Or you could always make your own...

A little carb cleaner will take it right off. Careful, because if you too far with it, your paint will be gone too.

glue on a small piece of white leather, i actully melted my bumper but it was touching the body for 3 months, it doesnt help that your car is white either. try a leather welding glove.

Yea, well I bought it the customed fabbed exhaust from another board member, so didn't have any of the work done myself (besides its installation), otherwise I would've made sure the tip was longer.

I suppose I could have the muffer tip extended 1".... wonder what that "simple" thing would cost me.

+1 on extending the exhaust. A shop could do it in 10 minutes and it wouldn't cost much at all, plus you won't have that problem anymore.

maybe keep it sprayed constantly with some kind of oil that would stay there and collect that buildup?

wd40 or silicon or something?

like put a wee bit of something that you could wipe off but would stay there until you wanted to take it off.

teh extention is a better idea, or you could even do a reduction in length.

after seeing those pics, i would cut that tip down to about an inch,
and find a piece of polished stainless with an i.d close to your existing pipes o.d and screw the stainless into the 1 inch remaining, it would look like a fresh tip and you could make it as long as you want.

I'm with RJ93SS. Not to mention stainless would look great and stay looking great.

That will permanently stain if you don't keep cleaning it. There aren't any solutions to prevent it from happening that will be low profile, just something like this:

and here's a writeup on how to do it, only you should do it good, not like the guy on the site did.
