so i have heard on this site 8 psi, 9 psi, and 14 psi. from the reading i have done on nasioc i get 14 psi.
What is the stock boost off of a td04 from a wrx?

and if it is 14, could i just swap solenoids on the turbo's, or should i just get a mbc?

I just installed one from an 03' and it boosted about 8-9psi using the stock boost solenoid. After using a boost controller I was able to turn it up to 11 psi.

All I know is that all three TD04's I've put on my 98 OBS that came from WRX's all boost 8 psi. This is the wastegate spring pressure using no boost controller.
Do WRX's have boost controllers that allow them to boost 14 psi?

Yes, the same basic setup as a stock SS. A duty-cycle based solinoid that blleds pressure from the wastegate spring. You can vary the boost pressure by changing the duty cycle.

A stock WRX runs about 14psi WITH THE BOOST Solenoid hooked up.
Actuator pressure on a JDM 90* inlet TD04 = 8psi.
Actuator pressure on a US WRX = ?psi (8or9)

i love the real examples, so i should be able to hook up stock vacuum hoses and just swap in the td04 and run 8-9 psi all day long right?

Just to note, the boost controller on the turbo legacy is better then the WRX. The WRX uses a bleed type boost controller. Ours uses a boost control solenoid that can completely vent boost pressure back to the intake and allow for quicker spool up.

could we maybe post the year and model of the td04's we are using, maybe that's where our difference comes from?

But, The TD04 isnt going to boost at 14 if it is directly swapped, obviously

slightly off topic, but can you just drop a TD04 turbo into our legacys?

Yes!!^
Well almost except for the inlet, you need to get/make a 90 degree elbow

ok.. i myself own a 2003 wrx, i also interned at a Subaru tuning shop
the stock psi on a wrx is 13.8, the wastegate spring is a 7 psi spring.. so if u swap a td04 into the leggy and up the boost ull have to use an mbc to up it anything abouve probably 8 psi due to the leggy's stock BCS...

thank you to everybody who's posted, much appreciated and will be alot of help to alot of leggy owners. i just, as in 5 min ago got back from my first drive with my new td04 an 06 ic installed. everything seems perfect except i am having the same problem i did before... my b gauge needle shakes like crazy but is hitting 8 10 psi, i dont know if it's the shitty gauge i am using or what but i had the same problem with the vf11.
whatever though, i'm super stoked...except i gotta get up for work at 445, whatever, im stoked. thanks to all the people of the bbs that did write up's on the swap and the guru's that answered my questions when i was stuck. i will do my write sometime soon, with pics

Is it hooked up to the boost solenoid, or is the boost signal directly connected to the actuator?
My TD04 was a JDM 90* inlet version from a '95 EJ20G GF8, I currently run a TD05-16G & it also boosts 8psi on the actuator....
