Thanks to one of my friends who told me about the opportunity, I have just started a column with The Examiner as Orlando's Auto Examiner.

http://www.examiner.com/x-1060-Orlando-Auto-Examiner

There should be an article already published that is my introduction and plans for the column. If you don't see it yet, give it a day maybe and it should show up (it might have to be approved by one of the editors).

Needless to say, I have been appointed the Examiner of Orlando's automotive scene, so I'm going to focus my article around events happening here locally. But I'm going to be exploring other automotive subjects that apply to all enthusiasts. So hopefully, this column will benefit everyone who reads it.

Talk about excited! My writing degree isn't totally worthless after all!

:D

Congratulations. Might be a great step into automotive journalism. The industry could use some guys who actually know how to turn a wrench and aren't easily blinded by flashy marketing presentations.

Cool! I think being an auto journalist is one of the best car-related jobs out there.

Congrats on the new job! My mom is interested in a new Fit so I'll point her in the direction of your column.

Thanks Sacha!

I made some fixes to it (my dumb ass started the article about gas mileage and then forgot to put the 09 Fit's mileage figures in it! ), so make sure she reads the updated post.

I've posted my 20th article, and it's a very special article to me, describing as best I can, my own personal enthusiasm for automobiles.

Driving Pleasure

It's posted in Orlando's 'Best Of' section, and I would much appreciate your readership and any feedback you may have.

Thanks!

Some novelties of working for a dealership never wear off... taking a brand-new car fresh out of PDI for a real test-drive with only a very understanding tech in the passenger seat

Test-drove a 2009 WRX today. MUCH better car than the 2008 IMO. Still would have a GD over it, but the 2009 has the fun factor the 2008 couldn't match. Way more power, better tires, tighter suspension.

Here's the article:

Well, it's been nearly two years since I started doing this, and it's been quite a journey already. I've covered increasingly large and important events, including the Rolex 24, Sebring 12 Hours, and the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction.

I've met a whole bunch of big people in the business already, including Craig Jackson, the CEO of Barrett-Jackson, and Jim Owens, the VP of marketing at Shelby Automotive. I also have plans to meet Bob Apodaca, who used to head D1 GP in the US and now does the marketing for Xtreme Drift Circuit, at the end of this month in Miami.

But I'm finally doing what I've always dreamed of doing ever since I was a little kid... test-driving astounding cars and writing about them.

I did the Ford Taurus SHO back in December... I have articles upcoming for the Volkswagen CC, and a brand-new Chevrolet Camaro SS 6-speed.

But this week, I think I've finally hit the big time...

... I'm driving a 2010 Jaguar XFR. On loan to me from Jaguar themselves. Just like Automobile or Motor Trend.

It's still not paying me much yet (I haven't quit my day job), and it's getting really exhausting doing both of them. But I've got a lot of momentum going and I'm sure as hell not going to stop now.

So keep reading... more awesomeness is ahead!

That sounds really cool, good for you! Too bad it's not making you a living.

It's great to make money off it, but some things are worth doing anyway. Sounds like a good way to spend time, plus it really is who you know and you're getting to know people.

That Jaguar is one of the few new cars I like, but I wouldn't object to driving around in a Camaro or SHO for a little while either.

Congrats Michael! Does sound like fun. I wouldn't mind driving that SHO around.

Even if you're not getting rich it's great that you have access to those sort of cars. I wouldn't stop either!
