4EAT 2nd Gear Problems

My second gear in my 4EAT doesn't work. 2nd gear will engage (in Drive) if I start it up and drive up my hill while the tranny is still cold. Other than that, it acts as if it's not there. I've been using Manual mode to get the tranny to shift from 1-3 as it would 1-2 normally, then move it into D at higher speeds. I hate having a 3-speed transmission! Any ideas? I had it checked out by AAMCO and they couldn't find anything. No codes, nothing. It feels mechanical anyways, so I'm not surprised. Could it be a blocked passageway? I already changed the tranny fluid and added LubeGuard ATF Protectant and it didn't change anything.

Manual mode does not due what you think it's doing. It's a primitive form of traction control that keeps the trans from going into 1st gear. It only works when the gear selector is in the 2 or 3 position.

If you move the gear selector to 2 and push the manual button, does the car move?

Yeah I have a 93ss wagon auto and the reverse does not work but drives fine forward. Trying to figure out what to do also.

time for a new tranny! sounds like the band on for the second gear drum is burnt to a crisp, very common in these older 4eat's
