My first split cylinder!

Yeah baby!

Popped the wall @ about 8:30 tonight. First thought I just cracked a ringland as usual. Then outside PIR I pulled over and realized it was STEAM coming out EVERYWHERE, not burning oil...

Thought I had finally popped a headgasket for the first time in my career, so I attempted to drive home. Nope. Made it a few miles and then the TEMP started to climb. So I made it to a bar I helped build the other day and pulled in there. A beer later, I took water out to the wagon and filled it back up, thinking I would be able to limp it home.

NO. I turned the motor over and water squirted about 2 feet out of the radiator! I realized at that point I had suffered a MASSIVE head gasket failure, or split cylinder, that water was just filling a cylinder and being pumped out when I turned the motor over!

So I called my favorite $80 per tow @ night guy and towed it back to the shop. two hours later I see what you see, one Hell of a split cylinder.

My suppositions on what happened?

Big boost, with issues. This motor NEVER felt right up top. It would get up and go, then fall flat. But EVERYTHING minus the header (which is better flowing now), and the bottom end, are the same as the POS crazy motor I ran 40whp with... So who flipping knows.

Next motor? Either a stroked 2.0, or an STI block.

Hm, I'm running EJ25 N/A block halves under boost as well. Hopefully mine holds out longer than yours! How much boost were you running through that engine?

That much boost on that block, lol, yeah. How long were you putting the wood to that block?

What about detonation? Could you have been getting a little bit and it slowly took care of that cylinder?

Here's a picture of a EJ257 that got turned into a tulip.
