Do I need a cat?

This is for a 91 legacy SS with a 95 EJ20 motor.

I'm going to be buying a 3" borla muffler from Borla and having an exhaust shop bend me a 3" exhaust to mate up to my 3" downpipe. I was going to also buy a high flow cat but then I started thinking, maybe I don't need one. There's no testing in my county.

Should I use a cat or no?

That depends on you. I don't think there's a huge performance hit by installing a high flow cat. Plus if you move some place that has emission testing or you sell the car, not having a cat can be a potential issue.

Alright, I'm not against it. Just thought I could save some money this way.

Which brand should I get? Or does it matter? How much are they?

I don't think it really matters. The newer high flow cats or the least flow restriction cats seem to be metal substrate cats vs. some of the older ceramic substrate cats.
