I have read a couple posts about removing the power antenna, but they seem to focus on the mast, not the motor.

I am trying to replace my power antenna with a fixed antenna, but cannot get at the motor. It's behind the trunk carpeting.

I was wondering the best way to take off the trunk carpeting without breaking the plastic locks that keep it up.

Also any tips on removing the antenna motor would be great!

You have to take all the crap out of your trunk out, then take the large trunk floor carpet out. This will make it much easier to get to what you need to get to.

Remove all the plastic buttons on the sides. To find out what is holding what, pull lightly, and see where they are being held down, they get at them with a wide prybar. My trick is to not pry directly at the rivets, but get under the carpet and pry UPwards, they should pop right out. Some might break, that is a risk you are going to have to take. You can get a box of like 20 from an autoparts store for a couple bucks.

Once you get the 3 or 4 buttons holding that side in, you can basically just open it right up, pull it towards the rear seats. You don't have to 100% take it off. I had no problems with it being flexible enough to do this.

There are a couple bolts which hold the motor in, take those off, unplug the harness, and pull the draintube from the grommet, making sure the sunroof one stays in place.

Is there a reason you are replacing the motor? I honestly like the auto antenna. I repaired my 95 with a new mast, and it works good as new.

I put a fixed antenna on my SS because the gear was slipping on mine, so it made a noise whenever it was going up or down.

thx guy very helpfull reply appreciat that i have sound problem with it ill gve a try with the sillicon lub first as i read on the other tread somewhere i did wd-40 but work only few day.

maybe i dint soak it enough or maybe sillicon lub will work better

but at least i know how to remove the carpet in the good way thx guys

I got the "Power Antenna Fix Kit" for $15 from antennax.com.

So if the lube does not solve your problem, then you could always check that out.
