You should be OK @ about 10psi - just listen for detonation, if you here any turn the boost back down to stock levels (8.7psi is stock)....

with a better intercooler and a hood scoop you could probably run it closer to 12, make sure to control your boost off intake pressure insted of turbo pressure

+1 more boost = possible with better charge cooling, though I'd probably put a Walbro 255lph pump in the car past 10psi just to be safe as the stock pump is OLD.

What is done to the exhaust?

on a stock turbo? You'll hit fuel-cut before you hurt anything. But keep it conservative, you can get a few more psi out of it.

I'm running ~10psi with a wrx intercooler and td05-16g with no detonation or anything, so you will be ok.

You'll be fine at 10 PSI with those mods. I ran my car at 10 PSI stock for about 4 months.

However, to really take advantage of how fast the VF-11 can spool up, you might consider getting a 3" catless downpipe. I currently have a full 3" catless exhaust and that turbo is fully spooled by about 2700 RPMs.

lol, damn. i was running a 16g at 15psi with stock injectors, stock pump. front mount and an exhaust. unfortunately it only lasted about 3-4 weeks..

it was really fun though. i knew i was doing it all rong but just didnt care. i just wanted a reason to build the motor.
