cracked injector... ok?

So I acquired a complete EJ22 (NA, '92 vintage) and full wiring harness to swap into my '85 Westy (VW).

I'm going through the motor with new seals/gaskets just about everywhere (it was dissasembled/hot tanked already).

Looking over the injectors I noticed that one of them has hairline cracks around the business end of the assy (through the plastic that surrounds the metal face that has the actual nozzle holes). Maybe 4 total cracks that radiate outward from the metal plate.

Is OK? or should I just start looking for a replacment?

Thanks,
Chad

I only run cracked injectors. I find I get better performance and gas mileage...but seriously, its hard to say from your description. Can you post a picture?

My camera sucks so no decent pictures of the cracks.

I'm just going to look for another "red top" to replace it. The cracks are bigger than I thought too - 1 of them is not really hairline.

It sounds like you may be talking about the pintle cap. Those are replaceable. You should be able to get a new one from Subaru or some of the fuel injector cleaning places that clean the injectors off the vehicle. Check out witchhunterperformance.com. They have diagrams and such to help you figure out what is what.

Hey, that's exactly it. The "pintle cap" is cracked.

Cool - Thanks a ton Jeff. I'll hit up witchhunter (and maybe get a cleaning done as well)

Witchhunter will replace the cracked cap if you get a cleaning. If you have any broken injectors they might have a spare one lying around.
