Headlight Aiming Question

On my 92 there are two 8mm screws. Lower corner does up and down from what i saw on the wall. Upper screw closet to radiator did left to right.

However, there's another bolt at the top of the headlight that has markings on it with L and R, and it takes an allen wrench to adjust that. What is that adjustment screw for?

Any chance you could get a picture of the bolt/screw? I am not as familiar with the post face lift legacies.

I saw taht on my '92 also, but haven't gotten far enough to mess with minor things like lights... I'm curious too though.

Hmm....it may just be an indicator. I'd have to look at the service manual to see if they mention anything.

it has a 5mm hex in it so it appears it can be adjusted. But what it adjusts not sure.

I've looked at the FSM, and it really doesn't show things in detail.

Any chance of getting some better pictures of exactly what you're talking about?

The headlights on both of mine have that. I messed with it and it didn't seem to do anything.

I believe he's talking about the kind of brownish post at the upper left in the picture. Would be upper outer corner looking from the back of the light.

It's got a spring or something in it. Maybe some type of adjustable vibration damping mount.

I think when you Adjust your headlights left to right the inner Mirror like peice that is holding onto the bulb is pressing on that Dowel. So it's kinda of like Measuring how much you're moving the light left or right.

Yeah, it's a measuring device to help you get the lens centered or adjusted properly.

According to the owner's manual it is the "beam angle gauge (horizontal movement)". Adjusting the allen screw changes the gauge reading but I am not sure if this is for reflector angle adjustment or gauge calibration. My focus today was on vertical adjustment. If I learn more about the horizontal adjustment, I'll post more on it. This thread contained the only useful info I could find regarding 93 Legacy headlight adjustment.

That's some great info on generic headlight aiming, thenks. I'm also curious as to what the 2 remaining adjustment screws do. It appears that the outermost 8mm adjustment screw is for horizontal beam alignment but if so, what does the hex head screw in the horizontal alignment gauge do?
