T-belt tensioner Q's

Some of you may have seen my engine build journal where I am taking a EJ22T and putting the EJ25D DOHC heads and intake on it.
I have a new t-belt tensioner for the 94 EJ22T block, but 93ForestPearl stated I need to use the newer designed (the pivoting style with the pully attached vs the older plunger style one) T-Belt tensioner with those heads.
The problem is, is that the new tensioner does not bolt onto the tensioner bracket for the older design. Locating that bracket has proved to be very hard.

Will the older plunger style tensioner work OK? I know the EJ25D that came in the 96-97 model outbacks used that same design with the dohc heads so I dont see how it could be a problem, but I want to make sure.

Old style will work fine, as long as you use an "old" style DOHC timing belt. That is IF there is a difference in timing belt length, of which I DO NOT KNOW the answer to....

I guess I don't know for sure then, if you need the newer style tensioner or not.

The timing belts for the 25D heads, WRX heads, and STi heads are the same.

Try it out. If it works, great. Otherwise, you need the matching bracket for the newer style tensioner.
