Post by douglas vincent »

Yep, another one. Replacing the 2.2 NA with an NA 2.5 block, STI crank and rods, 100 mm Mahles, twin turbo heads from the Reddevil that just split the cylinder walls, 550cc injectors, 6 puck and upgraded pressure plate, PP6, yada yada yada

December 6th, pulled the front end off to swap over painted hood, bumber and fenders. Ghetto, but on its way.

Then after dinner I went back in and installed the pre-painted hood, fenders and bumper.

Is that the EJ22T intake? I thought somebody told me you couldn't use it on DOHC heads?

No turbo for the first couple hundred miles.

Probably going to go with a Subaru turbo and a top mount.

So close to turning it over tonight. But the lack of 4.5 quarts of oil slowed me down.

Well... Started it up. Smooth as butter! Backed it up and added water. Sweet!

Then added power steering fluid (ATF) as i had swapped pumps.....

POW! Off shoots the pressurized side. Tighten it up and POW off it shoots again. Well, there is a reason the pressurized side is a single hard line. I had had to cut and modify the pressure side and "hope" my bandaid held. Not a chance. Have to see what I can do to connect the two metal lines. I am going to get a double ended flaring tool and should be able to do a pressure joint.

$44 later after a visit to Oil Filter Service, my two lines are now one!

Bolted the line back in, filled it with ATF, fired it up and drove up and down the street to set the rings.

Runs excellent! Need to do some fine tuning @ idle, but for NA driving right now its seemingly great!

Hey I noticed you're using the same block as my twin turbo motor. How did you go about plugging the oil line on the back of the head? It looks like you just left the pipe on and plugged the hose?

Is that what I should do? I've been trying to figure out how to get that off but if it's not necessary to remove it that's good. What did you plug it with?

Nice! I plugged the oil lines on my N/A'd turbo with a bolt in the hose.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Is that the best way to do it? Not gonna pop out and shoot oil everywhere?

No, not the best, but works for now. and it won't shoot oil everwhere unless you break a piston, because this is the RETURN so there is no pressure.
