H&R springs wtf?!

Has anyone actually used the h&r sport springs? H&R claims these springs fit legacy sedans 90-98 but the springs for 90-98 are not the same. 90 and 91 have tapered springs.
I bought some for my 91 ss and installed the front springs along with brand new kyb gr-2 struts today. When i lowered it to tighten my lugnuts the springs almost completely compressed and the car sat about 6 or 8 inches off the ground. I could barely get my damn jack out!
Did i do something wrong or are these springs just screwed up?

29868. i called about the rear springs being different for different years and told them the 90 and 91s have tapered rear springs whereas the the other years are not and all they told me is that they fit most applications. bullshit h&r sucks balls

29868 seems like the right one - what struts are you using? Could the spring perch be too high? Get the wrong strut?...

Im using kyb gr-2s but maybe the front is ok this is the first aftermarket spring ive put on the car and i just didnt expect it to lower it so much especially since kybs tend to raise the front end a bit.
I dont know what im going to do about the back though because right now i cant install them they wont fit. Maybe i can take apart a 92 strut assembly and make it work? I dont think the 92 to 94 had tapered springs but maybe im wrong

You're right, 92-94 don't have tapered springs.
If you can get the upper spring perches, they should fit fine. I might actually have them if you can't find 'em.
The car is probably as low as it's supposed to be. I know my legacy has Perrin WRX springs and I can't get a floor jack under it. I have to use a scissor jack to get it started...

So Adam West, you're saying that the HR sports springs with part # 29868 will lower the car 1.25" front and 1" rear? Is your car setup with kyb gr-2's or something else? Also your car looks very clean and has the aggressive stance that i've been looking for. More importantly, how does your car handle?
Thanks
John

Yes, I'm saying it AND the specs page is saying it...

That's not my car but I have the exact same setup. AGX's with HR Sports.
This is my car - handles terrific for the price of the set up. But coilovers on the horizon for what I'm trying to achieve.

Of course I also have 22/24mm sways, hard endlinks, ALK, et al.
Not sure why the springs would be any lower than specified. I'd be interested to hear how this turns out...
Cheers,
AW

so im still looking for rear top mounts from a 92-94 and im not having much luck. none of the junk yard/parts places have them and im not sure if the ones on the internet come with spring perches.
do the 95-99 sedans have the same bolt pattern as 90-94? i tried one from a wagon and the bolt pattern was different. so im wondering if the 95-99 sedan has the same bolt pattern as the 90-94 sedan but the wagons are different?

no the 90's have the same rear suspension as my 91. I have the top mounts i need now and have one side on now. im doing the other side tomorrow. the only problem im having now is tightening the jesus nut without spinning the stut piston

so they will you just have to have the rear top mounts?

you need the rear top mounts from a 92-94 which come in three pieces: strut mount, spring seat, and rubber seat. the parts numbers are 20370AA200, 20373AA200, and 20375AA030. I just finished mine yesterday. Finally!! It was a huge pain in the ass because i didn't know all this information when i bought the springs but it went together nicely. i would suggest at least looking into getting springs for a 04 wrx or sti. they will fit the stock rear mounts you currently have. although u will have to replace the front mounts, they come in one piece.

the only thing is i am not 100% sure the fwd models have tapered rear springs. i think they do just like the awd models. check to see if they are tapered at the top. if they are NOT and they are straight, then the h&r springs will fit without modification

sorry but how do you know if they are tapered

just look up in the rear wheel well or jack up the back end to get a better look at your springs. if they are smaller at the top than the bottom they are tapered

I'm running the H&R PN that you post on my 91 with GR2's with no problems. Rides nice with level height. Good quality for the buck.
