Help Turbobeater Out

Ok, many of us have been following the thread in the electrical section about how a company called Revtronix is developing performance mods for the OE ECU for the 91-94 Legacies.

Chip for stock ECU!

Turbobeater has been working with them by providing his own car for use as a guinnea pig. In his last dyno session the following happened...
TurboBeater wrote:Aaagh, well...good news and bad news... :?

I got 3 runs in, started off with the Stage 2 17 psi (peak) tune.

The first run didn't record because the dyno tach signal wire wasn't hooked up right.

2nd run was the good news, numbers were right on par with what we expected.
218 ft-lbs @ 3200rpm, 186 hp @ 5000 rpm.

3rd run was the bad news, seemed like major power loss. It really struggled getting redline and then when I let off the rpms dropped right past idle down to 0. At first we thought it could be a heat-soaked intercooler, but it wouldn't even start again, cranking sounded really funny. Checked the oil, it was 2.5L low!! After filling it up it starts now but sounds like I munched a main bearing. Idle is ok but a little rough. Rev to 3000rpm and it goes clank clank. No smoke out the exhaust and AFR was dead on 11.4-11.6 for the last run. When I drove it off the dyno it seemed completely gutless. Anyway, the 3rd run was 207 ft-lbs @ 3200 rpm, 159 hp @ 4500 rpm. Not bad considering it was seized enough to not start afterwards I guess.

Not sure what to do now, $5 of oil and I would be keeping up with stock WRX's right now. Should have checked it first, I'm an idiot. But I thought it was ok since the oil light should have come on right? Last time I checked the oil was a few months ago.
There are many of us that can spare a few extra dollars to help the Subaru Legacy community and Turbobeater has been putting forth his time, money, and efforts to do just that.

I propose that as many of us as possible send Turbobeater $10-$20 to help him fix his car so his efforts can continue.

So, if Turbobeater will sign on to this and provide a PayPal address along with an estimate of repairs we can get donating.

The few dollars you spend now to further this development will be saved later when you don't have to fork over $1200 for a Hydra EMS to tune your car.

This is a very kind gesture and I appreciate it! I would never have expected this from someone I've never met! But please, don't send me money it wouldn't feel right at all! I made the decision to use my car as a test vehicle and it was really my own laziness that caused the damage.

I don't think development will be slowed down too much. The Stage 2 VF11 was completed, just didn't make it past the last step of getting the final dyno numbers to show everyone. The next step is going to be the TD04 for which some local Legacy owners have offered the use of their cars. Fortunately the riskiest testing was done on my car, before all the parameters were fully understood.

One thing I could use is some help pulling the engine, I'm not looking forward to it at all. I guess first I'll have a closer look at things to try and see the extent of the damage.

I'm on the wrong side of the US to help, but I can give you tips on pulling the engine, I've done it myself a few times. Are you auto or manual?

What did you find in the oil? That sounds terrible. So close to success and "pow." I blew up a five-speed Taurus SHO in a similar fashion - #5 rod bearing took a dump and taffied around the crank. Dropping the pan was like gold mining... copper everywhere. :(

Good luck on the rebuild, you sound like you're close to a "eureka" moment. :)
