Viva el water trick!

To make a long story short, yesterday was my first leg turbo real test.

Snow has begin to fall over here and I know a few gravel roads that are accessible in the winter time.

Rally time!!!

But after an hour of heavy beating (4000-6000 rpm), we decided to go elsewhere. While waiting at a stop sign, the engine start clicking like there was no freakin tomorrow, had a closer look and I figured it was coming from the valve train. On my way back, I could'nt feel any difference in power.

Today I've checked the oil the oil level and it was perfect. So I did a little search on my favourite scooby board and found a few topics about the water trick.

Hocus pocus, after following the instructions given by Ciper the car sounds now just like it did before, perfectly.

Thanks Legacycentral

I'm now looking forward to the next snow storm (it's raining right now :( but we had 15 feet of snow last year, so it's just a matter of days ).

Drive the car around so its at stable operating temp (after fans come one)

Have a small cup of water handy and a container to fill the small cup back up

Disconnect the vacuum line from the purge valve. At idle this wont have any suction.

Place the line into the cup of water

As soon as you open the throttle plate it will start sucking. The water will cause the car to bog down, I kept it at about 4k rpm.

I had mine drink about 1/2 cup of water at a time. I then keep the RPM high but cover the vacuum with my finger.

You can tell when the water has left the intake as it takes less and less throttle to keep the RPM high. I kept the RPM at the high level for 10 seconds after it came back to normal/stable.

I let the car idle for about 30 seconds and inserted the tube to a refilled cup.

Repeat.

At first I was scared because my car sounded really weird. I took it for a 5 minute test drive (cruising and wot). After coming back and parking the engine noise was gone, I could clearly hear the ticking of the injectors now!

basically introducing water into the engine "steam cleans" the cylinders, valves, ports, etc. Carbon builds up on the surfaces, and sometimes will lift and cause a hot spot that acts as a separate ignition source, normaly causing pre-detonation or pinging.

The steam lifts the carbon deposits returning the engine to it's normal igition conditions.

Just don't over do it as too much water can take out the rings, and DO NOT let the engine die while water is being introduced. Restarting with water in the cylinder can cause hydrolock and bend parts....

You don't trust your self doing it?? Or would you just be happier if somebody came by?
