there is a little slider button on the rear latch that you can slide so the trunk wont open from the inside. if thats not the problem then you should just have to take the latch off, clean it thourghly, and re-grease and you shouldn't have a problem.

unless it is frozen???

You need to get at it first and hes saying hes locked out of the trunk because the key wont open it from the outside either.

Looks like your going to have to do the crawl of shame through the backseat.

def remove the backseat and remove that cover. i made the mistake of using a bar to pry the shit out of my trunk lid to access my tools that were locked in the trunk (which are worth more than the car lol). just gotta flip back w/e you done and it should open.

The little lever you flipped on the latch is called the valet lockout. It's so that when you give the valet parking guy/girl your keys they can't get into your trunk. It disables the trunk release inside the car. (This is in the owners manual.) Also, there is supposed to be a valet key, which does not open the trunk from the outside. I'm not too sure about the valet key though, my 91' SS only has one key and it doesn't open my trunk from the outside. Hope this helps a little bit.

The original valet key only opens the doors and the ignition. That's the only functions a valet needs.

The master key would open the doors, ignition, trunk and glovebox.

If your key doesn't open the trunk (or the glovebox), you might have recieved the valet key with the car. A dealer can most likely make you another master, for a price.

I knew this info already, but thanks. My key does lock/unlock the glove box, but not the trunk. Also my key goes in the ignition upside down and right side up, but will only start the car when inserted the correct way. I found this to be strange, but maybe that's how all the Subaru's are.

No I do not have that issue? Maybe you need a new key cut if yours if very worn out. There is a 4 digit code on the original key, or on the lock cylinder in the doors for example.
