Differences: Head Gaskets

Can anyone set me straight on head gaskets regarding part no. vs issue? I am trying to buy the thicker (1.52 mm?) one with the multi layer steel. I originally bought part 11044aa282 which is labeled as 91-94 Legacy turbo (subarugenuineparts). When I recieved it I found that is was the composite style head gasket, so I order 11044aa114 labeled as Impreza 2.2 95-98/ aka 91-94 Leg. non turbo. These gaskets are the same as the aforementioned ones with the exception of the placement of the coolant holes. I've been bouncing back and forth between this and "another" forum trying to sort out the details....isn't there supposed to be an MLS gasket the same thickness as these or have I been lead astray?! I would prefer the MLS gaskets but if these can stand up to a beating then I wont worry about it. Anyone want to add real world experience on this?

AFAIK, there is no factory thick MLS EJ22 gasket.

Cometic is the normally suggested source for them.

Disclaimer....I could be remembering wrong as I haven't started my gasket research yet.

The only MLS gasket for the Ej22 is the phase II gasket used on the 99-01 engines. However it's not the thickness you are looking for. Either you use what you got or you special order from Cometic.

I personally use the factory gaskets with no issues.

Excellent, that's what I needed to know! Thanks on both accounts. Somewhere along the line I got my facts mixed up.

+1 on what Matt said. I ran 23+ psi with no issues from the 22T headgasket.
