I have a question.
I know someone who has a 2005 sti that he wrecked. the running gear is still intact. Would it be possible to install his whole wheel hubs, brakes etc into my 1991 ss? im just wondering how much rusty crap i can get rid of in mine, and how much i could use of his.
Thanks

2005+ STI had a wider mounting lug on the front hubs and a larger bolt pattern for the wheels. This means that the front struts also need to used. Using the STI struts will throw your camber off and you might need to add a second set of camber bolts. Etc...etc...etc..
Short story, it can be done but there are lots of details to work out.
The trick set up would be to use the complete crossmembers, control arms, steering rack, anti roll bars, hubs/knuckles/brakes/wheels, rear diff, and axles. Using everything means it would all work together with less chance of missing a detail and stalling the project. Not to mention you'd make a few of us quite jealous.

You are in an enviable position, really... Like Phyrra said, almost the entire drivetrain and suspension will transfer to your car when used as a whole... consider it a re-shell. At least one person here has gone as far as using the dashboard, too. With access to the entire wreck, you can effectively create a BC-bodied STI.
WOOT!
Do lots of searching, you'll see folks using many STI components, and threads detailing installation. 6-spd tranny w/ a standalone DCCD controller, etc. Check out NASIOC, too, lots of guys putting STIs into older Imprezas... same operation.
