All of us need to get involved and contact our Representitives IMMEDIATELY!!! Washington legistature has proposed a bill that applies a displacement fee on ALL vehicles. This is not a BS post, I've looked at the actual proposed bill (attached link below), and we are fixing to get bent over the legislative desk for a good reaming!!! This is written to go into effect 1 Jan 2009!!!

our 2.2 ltr Subaru's are "ONLY" $70 a year, but fees go up dramatically above 3.9 ltrs!!! My Dodge Cummins (5.9Ltr) would cost an additional $325 a YEAR, and my '64 Galaxie's with 390's would be $400 EACH on top of all the other fees involved with tabs and titles... I'm facing an additional $1540 a year in displacement fees on vehicles that log under 1000 miles a year. WTF, why didn't we here anything on the news about this!!!

here is the actual text:

Lets start the mail/e-mail campaign to tell them that this is NOT what the people want!!!

How long have you lived here? By now you should know that it doesn't matter what the poeple want. The only opions that matter are those of our 'elected' officals/representatives who know best what we really need regardless of what we tell them we actually want. You see, they actually have our best intrests (definately not revenues) in mind when they conjure up genius laws like this.

But seriously, a stop does need to be put to this. Any insight on how to do so?

Can you register the Galaxies as Antiques or something? I don't know about WA, but with that low mileage, you shouldn't have to pay much for insurance either. Don't know if an antique registration would preclude you from this law anyway.

Calling representatives might help. It's worth a shot and if enough people call, it might accomplish something. I actually had a state rep call me back after leaving a message. I was shocked. Don't know how much MY call helped, but the bill I called against wasn't passed. Maybe you could propose an exemption for actual work trucks and collectibles (perhaps through special registration, like commercial and antique/collectible). The idea of this bill is probably to use it as a "vice tax" against people who drive giant vehicles they don't need as a way to discourage their purchase (but really just to rake in money). I don't care about the office jockeys, but that will definitely hurt small blue collar business owners. I imagine rich people still shit and still need their plumbing fixed or electrical systems repaired. And you can only save so much money by hiring Mexicans for landscaping while trying to keep competitive prices.

Wow, though, just WOW. The PNW is worse than the Statewealth of Massachusetts!?

DId some talking with friends on another forum and one of them contacted his rep (admitted to actually knowing him...), and this is a dead issue... even the legislature realized it was bad JUJU.

BUT we all need to keep an eye out for this type of crap in the future, with the states and the Fed running low on money it has to come from someplace, and that someplace is US.

Around here it's been from increased traffic extortion. It's funny how direct a correlation there is to the poor fiscal health of the state and the increased presence of speed traps. But it's about road safety. Yeah.

same thing here... I've seen more law enforcement out with radar in the past month than I saw all of last year...
