so what you are saying matt is i can take the stock boost controller totally
out of the loop? which one is it on the fender well, cause i have an
aftermarket one and would like to use that one.. when i remove that hose,
its not gonna screw with the computer, is it? i know i cant go above stock
levels without a fuel computer, but to keep it rock solid at 8.5 all the
time, this is possable?

Yes, you can. You can refer to the write up about the Hallman on
Dave's Turbo-Centric page( in the links) to know exactly what to do,
but basically you just replace the factory boost solenoid with your
controller, you can probably even use the same lines if you want,
just take the solenoid out and put the controller in. Leave the boost
solenoid's electrical connection plugged in however.

>From what I was told, the ECU knows how much fuel to add because of
different things such as the Mass Airflow Meter, O2 sensor, TPS,
etc., but it doesn't base any maps on what the boost solenoid or map
sensor says. In other words, the boost control solenoid is simply
there to open and close the wastegate, not provide the ECU with
information. Again, this was told to me by a Subaru Master Tech( take
it for what it's worth), who also had a Legacy Turbo with a few mods
done.

BTW, There are guys above the stock boost level without a fuel
computer, me included, you just can't overdue it. It's been pretty
much established that as long as you have an intercooler, anything
under the boost cut( around 13psi) is within the limits on a US spec
Legacy Turbo.

Don't know what model you're lookin for, and what you think is cheap,
but the HBC (Hallman Boost Controller) is sold at least here:

Well, a couple of the guys in this group have made it VERY easy for
you, I suggest you explore Dave's website thouroghly... there is A
LOT of good stuff! The HBC installation is described in "The
Library"...

Of course, you could also use another valve (like I did), e.g. a
Wilkerson (X10-C2-000) relief valve will do the work. BUT, if you
really want to make it good, try this one:

I had a hallman for a while before i upgraded. It was pretty good
unit but i had to have more.

I just wanted the best, so i got an Apex-i AVC-R. It's really very
good and the response is much smoother and direct than the
HBC or what any MBC could do. It has digital gauges for
vacuum/boost, RPM, Injector and solenoid duty cycle and throttle
position.

I think it was well worth the money. Here's my little write-up on it:

i have a turboXS boost controller that i got for $79 from a local speed shop
(www.turboXS.com) hooked it up and its dead accurate. i have it set at 9psi
all the time instead of how the stock one gives you 5psi in 1-3rd gear then 7
in 4th and 8.7 in 5th... big difference... just wish the G-tech had an output
to show measurments

Mike, the stock wastegate solenoid is a vacuum operated affair which
is triggered by inlet manifold pressure. It is not controlled by the
ECU at all. It is a fully mechanical device which can be manipulated
by altering the pressure signal it will see.

I believe the aftermarket electronic boost controllers have a fast
acting solenoid placed between the source and the wastegate actuator
(is this accurate?)

My AVC-R has a very fast solenoid valve to control boost, though it's
almost moot due to a pretty slow reacting and weak wastegate. Thank
goodness the ECU won't let it go over .90BAR!

Even the simplest MBC can do a better job than using the creaky stock
parts to do the job. I recommend the Hallman.

My stock solenoid, 1992 RS Liberty Turbo, is a 3 port design and controlled
by the ecu.

pete, i was talking about the boost controller, NOT the wastegate on the
turbo... follow the lines from the waste gate to the boost controller on the
right side strut tower, then the other hose runs to the turbo...

what im wondering is IS can we manually control this somehow... if i can
make some little piece of equipment from radio snack or something to have it
work on my terms, to keep the stock look under the hood, that would be
better... im all for manual boost controllers, but i was just curious about
this one....

that pressure... im guessing thats how the stock boost controller works, the

says, well im a retard and i dont know what all this means cause im an

pulse to the boost controller and BAM your fun is over...

Ooops, sorry I misunderstood. I currently have mine disconnected and am
using a homemade manual boost controller. I am currently considering a
different setup though, as I have to keep changing the setting to compensate
for air temp/density.

i got one of those off of E-bay and had the exact same problem. with it turned all the way down, the needle pegs, when you start to adjust it it does nothing past 4psi (stock waste gate pressure) the problem could lie in that the hose from the turbo to the BC has popped off since its 2piece, check that first. but probally a defective unit. take it off and undo all the fitinggs, one of the fittinggs will let you see inside the unit, if you look inside and turn it and nothing happens, then its bad. did you buy it from "emm-co" on ebay?

I own a 92 Rs Liberty and I have the following problem. Boost is coming on and off as it pleases. I have had it to the local Subaru specialists ( Auto Craft Newcastle) and we have come to the conclusion thyat the Wastegate Control Soleniod Valve is stuffed. To make sure that this is the problem the car has been booked in at Hunter Subaru on Friday to be confirmed of this problem. The engine light came on for a couple of seconds so we have to plug it into the wall as we could not get any error code on the dash. The original part is $383.

I have been looking at your products for the Gated Boost Control Valve. The Wastegate Control Soleniod Valve has three pipes coming out of it. One comes from the turbo and into the switch. Two comes out out of the switch and into the waste gate. The third is were I am confused, it comes out of the switch and into the intake just after the air flow meter. Do I just plug up number three and forget about it. Also do I leave the switch plugged in. Do I need to purchase a Fuel Cut Defender.

I have a dawes device on my turbo and yes just plug the pips to the solenoid. As for fuel cut lifter if you want to run higher than 14-15 psi then you will need one.
