Hello all.........a bit of a Subie-noob but from my lurking here I am sure I'll find some help.
This BB has been a HUUUUGE help in my Subaru engine conversion.

I'm running an EJ22T that I pulled out of a $500 - 1991 AWD Auto Legacy Sedan,in my 1988 VW vanagon. It simply kicks ass with this engine.
I want to do some exhaust upgrades and am wondering what catalytic convertor most of you are running on your turbo engines.
I have run a stainless header and muffler, with 2 1/2" off the turbo and just a universal cat. I plan on replacing the stainless muffler but am not sure what cat. to get into. I need to pass yearly emmission tests so that has to come int consideration. I'll need a new )2 sensor too. Any rec's??

The magnaflow universal ones work, but they have less flow and aren't as efficient as an OEM one or a metal substrate catalytic converter. You can get race cats that are like little bulges in the downpipe. They have higher flow and are more efficient at burning fuel so it's easier to pass emissions and make more power. They just cost a heck of a lot more. For a street car I would just run a magnaflow high flow universal cat. They do flow better than stock and if you have a good tune you should easily be able to pass emissions.

Yeah it's a lot more money but it might be worth it.

I run a highflow cat from TURBOXS. Got it on nabisco. I run it on the front third of my midpipe. Good luck!

i prefer no cat , but if you have to have one cuz of emissions or whatnot, and are going for performance, hands down get a highflow if you can afford it

I have heard of lots of people passing emission testing with catless exhaust. But i don't know what their setup was. Nor if your regulations are the same. But there is hope you don't have to waste your money.

I havent tried yet but plan too. Just waiting to get pulled over for no inspection sticker before I do In RI they do not run the cars on a dyno due to it being AWD. They would not even run my old GL wagon on the dyno when they inspected it because there is a huge prompt that tells them "NO SUBARUS" when they enter the info. They only stick a sniffer in the tailpipe at idle.
