A wikipedia entry I read said that all Subarus switched to pull-clutch in 1998. A tranny chart I have has push-clutch models listed up to 2005. What's the real story?

All factory turbo 5-speeds had pull clutchs up untill about '05. Not sure on the changeover years.
NO factory N/A had a pull clutch.
All factory turbo 6-speeds have pull clutchs. (edit...no idea what the factory diesel 6-speeds use)

Correction.
The 2.5RS actually came with a pull type clutch as well. Other than that, no other N/A Subaru had a pull type clutch.

I have personally taken apart two 2.5RSs. One '98 and one '01. BOTH were normal push type clutches. While I have by no means experience with every Subaru, I have never seen a reliable source indicate anything other than a push type clutch on a factory N/A car.
There are cases where JDM turbo transmissions have been used to replace blown RS transmissions, but that's hardly factory.
30502AA051 , that's the part number for all release bearings on push type transmissions, hydro and cable. If you go to any of the online Subaru parts suppliers and search for any Impreza '93-'01 (including RSs) that's the number you will get. Any N/A Legacy or Forester will give the same number. There might be an oddball FWD or something that gives a different number, but you get my point.

Hmmm. I may have jumped the gun and assumed that it was a pull type clutch because it was hydraulic. My bad...
