New struts and springs

Alright I really need some new struts and would like to lower the car about an inch or so. I have a 92 legacy sport sedan and in doing some research I think I can use 02-03 wrx struts/springs combo with my stock top-hats. Is this possible? If I do end up using wrx struts will this give me more clearance for a larger wheel/tire combo without rubbing the strut? Thanks for any help guys!
