Hey guys so i kinda new to Subaru's but not new to this site. I am a 17 year old kid with a good $20 dollar and hour job coming up this summer. I like to figure things out for myself (hint hint the muffler i built ). I want to get more horse power out of my 1993 turbo wagon it runs well right now but i want to be able to actually keep up with something more than a Damn Mini Van.

I know i want to do some internal work and put DOHC heads on it and different turbo. But i don't know what parts i need to do all this and where to get them. I could really use some help on this i know i can do all the work i just need some guidance. :!:

You can only keep up with a minivan? lol!

I would start with a tuneup if that is your problem. Plugs, wires (OEM), fuel filter, new knock sensor if yours is cracked. Are you running 91 octane?!

Is it a Turbo Caravan? Work OT.

Research and learn as you start to collect parts.

you will definately need to get an intercooler before you throw a bigger turbo on there, which comes with alot of time and effort but if you want to upgrade turbos you really dont have any choice

I think the engine usual upgrade path would be

0. fresh tune up - car should be running well with no CELs

1. Intake - K&N drop in, c-cup mod, desnorkus
2. Intercooling 06-07 WRX seem to be the best fitting cheap TMIC
3. 3" TBE
4. Walbro 255 HPHV fuel pump
5. Turbo upgrade (TD04 off a WRX is a slight upgrade, TD05-16G works well too)
6. 440cc injectors
7. Revtronix chip / JECS MAF mapped to your turbo / injector combo with increased boost

Your car should turn & stop well before you make 1000WHP, so make sure the suspension & brakes are up to the task & if they are not upgrade them.

There is a complete upgrade path that has brake & suspension mods as well somewhere in the site.

If I remember correctly, everyone pitched in their ideas on a thread like this. I think Spencer (smh0101) created it. I searched around for it, but couldn't find it. Hopefully he'll see this and then he can pitch in.

hey thanx guys i have looked at all your guys comments. When i said all i could keep up with is just Mini Vans it was like joking around I mean don't get me wrong i have smoked my share of Honda's. But when i bought the car i did a complete tune up like you have mentioned. Hey Matt thank for the link i booked it as a favorite I need to reread it a couple times to take it all in. And i know if i want to do bigger turbo i am going have to do a intercooler but i just cant decide if i want a top or front. i am leaning towards front but top is way easier. Hahaha thanx 92ss satinsvoice my moms dodge caravan has seen a mad burnout. Cool

Now that i have looked at the one long forum about heads i think i want to do wrx ej20g heads. I am going to need a bunch of new stuff but once i figure out what a good setup is. I can find all the parts.

Help me out a good motor upgrade for under $2000.

I have way under $2000 in my EJ20H/TD04/TMIC conversion, and I haven't even sold the 4.11 5-speed that came with the motor.

Check my build thread, lots of bang for the buck...here.

My best advice would be to do research, read around on here, find out what is the best route for YOU, don't let us tell you what the best mods are. Otherwise you'll end up dropping a bunch of money on parts you may not need or want, like I did with my e30.

There's some quick minivans out there by the way, go race a new Odyssey and tell me how it goes :o I actually managed to get this old Asian guy to race my e30 in his Odyssey, it was pretty funny, but he kept up really well

hey guys so thanx for all the advice. I think for right now i am going to take bxss's advice and see where that gets me. As a lot of you guys know Zach's (subarunation)tranny went out and he is going to sell me his top mount and he bought a tdo4 that he said he would sell to me. My only couple questions are what is a Jecs Maf and where can i pic up some 440cc injectors.

hey guys so a stock legacy should hit 8-9 psi right. I only as because i had this cheepo boost controller on there. And i was only hitting 5psi then i hooked it back up and now i am hitting like 8-9 is that normal?

The stock boost solenoid and ECU will allow 8psi of boost. With a properly connected MBC you can get 11psi. At 12 the ECU will cut fuel so some sort of EMS or fuel cut defender needs to be implemented at this point if you wish to run more boost.

If you were getting just 5psi of boost using premium gas with the boost solenoid hooked up something is wrong with your car.

Check that the knock sensor is not cracked.

+1

You could also have a bad boost control solenoid (it happened to me), but a cracked knock sensor is more likely.

so i was hitting 5psi with the $14 boost controller from ebay. Now that i got everything back to stock like the boost solenoid and stuff i am hitting 8-9 pounds so its all good now. I threw the 14 dollar one in the river.

More than likely what was happening with your eBay MBC was that it wasn't allowing you to up the boost at all and was in fact bypassing your stock BCS so your turbo was only running wastegate pressure. So, in effect you had an MBC that was stuck on its lowest setting.
