1990 subaru legacy ls AWD Trans help please

The the transmission on my legacy has been malfunctioning since my friend ran it into a snow drift. The transmission slips through first and second and works in third gear. Also i put the car in drive and it went in reverse. I am planning on removing the trans and attempting a rebuild, however; i would like any advice, opinions or information anyone would have on this matter. Thanks to anyone that helps me.

Before you pull it out check the cooler lines and see if one of them got kinked and check the trans pan to see if it's crushed in. If you find any exteranal damage fix that first as restricted flow may be causing the problem.
Unless your friend sat there spinning the wheels trying to get out, if he did that then he probably cooked 1st and 2nd...

actually if anyone has a compatible transmission for that car and is within a reasonable distance from oakland county, MI i might be needing one. Post w/ price if interested.
