Ok im looking at a 5spd 1.8 fwd impreza sorry its not a Lego The SS blew up so i just need a subaru yeah Need A Subaru

Well any way the car has about 250k miles on it but is perfect inside and out and the motor also look pretty clean might need some new valve cover gaskets but other than thats its clean, and it just wont rev past 3000rpms with the gas to the floor and the exhaust smells really rich and was wondering what is a possiblity to fixing this problem car doesnt valve tick like the average subaru either and as far as revving it only the 3 grand it doesnt make any signs of engine knock?

I am thinking exhaust restriction, maybe a clogged cat. Check you air filter and make sure a mouse hasn't built a nest in your snorkus. I would say it is a good time to remove it, the snorkus that is. Fuel filter would be another thing to look into.

Check it for codes.

Can you coax it past three grand? Down a hill say?

If you rev it in neutral will it go past three grand?

Does it start running rougher and rougher as you get near the three grand mark, or al the way up through the gears even? Or does it run smooth right to the three grand and then abruptly stop reving?

Ok, well, I'm not really sure but I'd suppose it's a carby model?

Can you get a vacuum gauge on t it? That might show a blocked exhaust, whether it's efi or carby.

Trying to get a seat of the pants feel for the problem....
Once it gets to three grand and limits, wht happens when you back off the throttle? Do the revs lower as soon as you move the throttle? Or do you have to back off a bit and then there is s sudden responce to the throttle movement?

If you coax it up to the three grand ann keep pushing the throttle what happens? Does it start to make a hollow sort of a sucking noise? As you push the pedal further does nothing happen?

Ok, since it's efi you need to check for trouble codes. Have a look here... http://codes.rennacs.com/
If you could get it onto a laptop it might show the problem.

If it has a loud sort of a hollow sucking sound it could likely be a blocked exhaust. That would show up on a vacuum gauge.
If it's not an exhaust leak I would pick an electronic part is breaking down under electrical load. A scan with a laptop would probably show that up.

reply to LOG1 the car revs to 3 grand stays at three grand until you let off the car but when you do let off of the gas it kinda shakes down like its restricted or something
