just bought my first subaru. it's a 93 legacy l 4 door automatic with 148000 on it. paid 800. starts and runs like a champ. the only problem i can find is a clicking sound when you are turning. no binding or jumping, just a loud clicking the entire time you turn. it's not there when driving forwards or backwards in a straight line. any ideas? also, i don't have any tech data (owners manual or shop manual). does anyone know where i could download these items? i found a website earlier with the ones for my jeep cherokee for free, but they didn't have any for imports. any help would be great.

sounds like a CV (constant velocity) joint. Check to see if your boots are torn.

EDIT

Sorry, forgot about the second part of your post. Check this post out for the Manuals http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=14485

okay, boots look good, it seems to click more when turning right, so which one would it be? i'm thinking the right one, but i'd hate to replace it and it turn out to be the left. what do you all think?

In my experience if it clicks when I turn right it's usually the left axle that needs replacement, but that's not a hard and fast rule. I usually examine the joints.

It's unusual for a CV joint to go bad without the boot tearing. It's possible, of course, that the previous owner replaced a torn boot. You did check all four boots, right? Each axle has an inner and outer joint.
