best turbo for rally-x?

I'm thinking of what turbo to upgrade to eventually. I want to run at least a bar of boost when I get an intercooler. I don't think that's too out there of an expectation for this car. lord knows most of the engine can take it. but at that setting, the life of the 10 year old turbo will probably get reduced and I'll need to get another one.
Planning ahead, I'd like to know what kind to look into. Eventually this will be a dedicated rally-X car. possibly a few TSDs. I'd really liek to know what kind of turbo to get for rally-x. Low spool seems to be a big deal, but in an auto I'll spend most all of my time in the higher parts of 1st gear. Should I go for more boost to tear up the gravel, or less spool to get out of corners quicker?

I am in no way, shape, or form trying to burst your bubble, whatever floats your boat, but I have heard many times, don't ever, ever, ever rally w/ a autotranny. I have heard that the delay from your foot to the wheels will not allow you to use the power to the best of your advantage...
That said, I would want torque and quick response. Rallying isn't about 150-mph stretches, where you'd need HP, but haling ass out of a turn, torque. So I'd imagine you'd want quicker, but less, boost...

don't worry about bursting my bubble. I've heard that many times in many ways. It's all about how you drive it. left foot braking, I can come out of a turn quicker than most sticks. It's all about anticipation and keeping the throttle where it should be preemptively. I've rally-x'd before with my 4EAT Impreza TS. I did pretty well with it considering my lack of experience. a friend of mine with a an auto WRX consistantly beats out at least 90% of the competition. Sorry, gotta defend slushbox pride

. not saying I wouldn;t rather have stick, jsut that I gotta roll with what I have.
anyways, I'm glad you second my intuition about the quick spool. sometimes it's easy to get diluted in the world of "go for the boost and the horsies!" I just needed reassurance that a smaller turbo was really the way to go.

What about placing a restrictor on a slightly larger turbo that spools decently. Seems like the rally cars have similar setups. They have the potential for 600+hp, but with the restrictor only make 300hp with a @ssload of torque . . .

But the bigger turbine wheel will take longer to spool up, won't it, even under low boost?

Some ceramic ball bearing turbos spool as good as stock below 3000, but give better mid-range torque . . . however, they are pricey

I think the rallycars use a VF-35 . . . And those are on 2.0L engines.

On a budget??
Stock WRX turbo TD04-13G it spools well on a WRX when you un-cork the exhaust, put that on an EJ22 and it should spool even quicker.
The ION performance re-work or a VF24/28 would do well, but not on a budget
