in my car the driver's side automatic seat belt shoulder belt didnt work because the cable derailed.I went and picked up a working automatic driver's side belt and track for $30.Now I have to take apart the whole damn car to change a seatbelt. How come only canada got the manual belts?GRRR!! just dont like that I have to pull the headliner and pillar covers off to change the stupid thing.Oh well, I suppose have a shoulder belt and a lap belt would be safer in accident, even though the seatbelt doesnt really hold you in..

You don't need to remove the headliner, just the pillar trim... If I remember correctly, they just pop off, only a couple screws. Took me about 15 minutes to get down to the seatbelt track. While you're in there it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the motor too... that turned out to be what was wrong with my two legacies.

I believe the reason canada got manual and we got auto was because at the time the united states made it manditory for every new car to either have airbags or automatic seat belts. Automatic seatbelts were probably cheaper.
Canada probably just doesn't care.

Thats odd, I had to remove the headliner in the donor vehicle to access the top bolts that hold the track in.Although it was a wagon with a sunroof so its headliner might be different.I also got the motor as well, the complete assembly for $30

^^^Wow, I didn't know there was any kind of replacement policy through Subaru.
I just used 95+ manual seatbelts and made the trim fit by hollowing out the track. I've done it to both '93s, for about $35 per car including hardware.

So I got it installed and back together, and I have one complaint. Why did subaru have to the trim pieces clip in rather than use screws? The piece of trim for the B pillar broke at the bottom and along the top edge heading back...Damn.I suppose the next time I am up at pull and save I will see if they have any legacies with black trim, and NON-Chrome door handles, and maybe some mudflaps...
