You're right. Sometimes pressure, sometimes not. I think it depends on ambient temperature.

Why complicate things? Just vent it. If you're that worried about a minuscule amount of hydrocarbon emissions, leave the stock setup in there. There's a reason the manufacturers did it that way. If you're worried about a cluttered engine bay, relocate the stupid canister into the fenderwell and hook it up like stock.

Here's the thing:
Tank pressure or vacuum = bad
Unmetered air into intake = bad
Unburned fuel in the intake tube = bad

Stock setup = a little cluttered, functional
Open tank vent = a little emission-y, still functional (keep in mind millions of cars for decades ran simple vented systems like this and were just fine)

Ive had my vent open under the hood for atleast 5 years no canister. Yes I have some vac in the tank but ive never noticed a problem fuel wise.

Edit, I probably do about 150-200 miles a week.

The fender is a goog option. I hate complicated things when I can make them simpler. I also hate things that don't work or work inefficiently. This is one of those things. Ill probably put it in the fender like I did the washer resevoir. That works for me.

Seems like a good option. But why do you worry about it? Doesn't your 20g ecu not have the purge solenoid?

Beats me. If it doesn't, that's explains why there's still pressure buildup in the tank when the system is hooked up. I've heard that before though. If it doesn't have the purge solenoid overseas, how do they not have any problems with tank pressure or vacuum?

They should have the purge solenoid with the overseas cars.

ECU RELATED CHANGES

----- DE-PIN FROM CONNECTOR ------

- Purge Control (F47-6 ; White-Blue) :: Remove from the ECU plug. Purge control does not exist on the JDM EJ20G ECU. This pin is used for the 5th injector control on the WRX RAs (although it not used on any stock ECU). I am not sure what the consequence will be of losing control of the purge system.

- California Pin (B56-11 ; Green-Black) :: Remove from the ECU plug. This pin is used for the JDM EJ20G accelerator pedal switch. It has no impact on the behavior of the EJ20G ECU.

----- DE-PIN AND MERGE WITH ANOTHER ------

- MAP ground (B48-5 ; Red) :: Merge with
B48-21. B48-5 is used for the stock JDM EJ20G cat efficiency EGT sensor. Not having an the stock EGT sensor has zero impact on how the ECU runs. The EJ20G harness combines the MAP sensor ground with all other sensor grounds at B48-21.

----- OTHER ECU DIFFERENCES THAT CAN BE IGNORED ------

- N/A (F47-4) :: Nothing to be done. On the EJ20G ECU, this is the Fan #2 control.
- N/A (F47-16) :: Nothing to be done. On the EJ20G ECU, this is the steering pressure switch input.
- N/A (F48-12) :: Nothing to be done. On the EJ20G ECU, this is for the EGT cat efficiency warning light.
- TPS shield (B58-7 ; Black) :: Nothing to be done. On the EJ20G ECU this pin is unpopulated in the connector. TPS shield it is located at B48-21, but B58-7 will work as well as both pins are connected inside the ECU.

My edm ej20g ecu was looking for the PCS, but once I enabled the Robtune (by cutting a resistor), his code had no provisions for that.

Stock JDM cars without purge solenoid control use a system back by the tank that does not require ECU intervention to vent the tank.

Mike, the EDM EJ20G cars do use the Purge Solenoid, was your ECU from an EDM WRX?

7d is the ecu in my car now. 93-96 EDM WRX. Before snipping the resistor that enables Robtune, the code for PCS was active. The ecu I gave rob as a core, a JDM 3B, showed no such code.

Yep, that would do it. Yours was running EDM code so it had the PCS stuff enabled, the JDM code that Rob uses as his base has no PCS control because all the early JDM WRX EJ20g engines had no PCS.

So hooking it up won't do me any good anyway? If so that explains why it didn't improve when I finally hooked it up. Can I get the tank vent setup on my tank?

With the purge solenoid plumbed up and no signal from the ecu to open it, venting that pipe won't do any good, will it? Can I just drill a small hole in my gas cap? Haha

Just leave the vent line open with a small filter on it under the hood. Done.

That doesn't address the solenoid. Is the solenoid giong to keep the vent line closed anyway? Should I remove the solenoid? Or maybe there isn't a solenoid...Also, what type of filter and where do I get one?

Take the solenoid off.

Just go to the auto parts store and buy the smallest filter you can and put it on the vent line where the rubber hose connects to it behind the fuel filter.

Alrighty. Is it just to keep debris out or does it actually filter the fuel vapors out?

The solenoid is on the manifold. The line coming from the tank shouldn't have anything in it, so as Alphius mentioned, just put a filter on it. You can test this by unscrewing the gas cap and blowing through the vent line.

I left the solenoid on there for now. Might remove it later. I installed a fuel filter on the line that I believe to be the vent line. You can see it in the pictures. It was the smaller of the three lines and it was only secured with pinch clamps whereas the other two were adjustable bolted clamps for higher pressure.

I got the front brakes and SS braided TechnaFit hoses on tonight. Here's how they'll look inside my wheels.

I don't know whether I need 91 SS rear parking brake shoes or 05 LGT shoes. Autozone had different part numbers for both and only had the 05 LGT in stock so I picked those up and ordered the 91 shoes too just in case.

The brakes, struts and hoses match! I really need some of those nice coil over sleeves that keeps your springs, piston and threads clean. Ewww.
