Tow hitch on legacy?
Anyone install a hidden hitch or anything on their leggy? I'm lookin for tips/ pointers.

got a draw tite hitch reciever on my wagon. its only a 1" reciever and was used for a bike rack. really good setup for that. I was told by the place i got it that class II(with 2" reciever for something like 400lb tongue weight?) are not available for the legacy. somehow I find that hard to believe. but, the attachment points that mine uses are the rear tow points and some knockouts under the rear frame rail and uses like 5/8 or 5/16 coarse thread hardware. I don't know if I would want to tow more than about 1000 pounds with it. I bet a legacy would pull about 2000-3000lbs pretty safe if you had a good setup. theyve got more power and brakes than a lot of small pickups.

I've seen someone pulling a small boat. Not what I'd recommend, but he seemed to be doing fine. Vikash had a hitch and I looked at one that had one installed as well, but I don't know what kind they were. They looked substantial, but I don't know much about hitches and didn't do more than glance at them.

tongue weight is the weight that is actually bearing down vertically on the trailer hitch and is different from the weight of the trailer itself. for a car doing the towing you probably want as little tongue weight as possible. when I'd be towing crap with a stiffly sprung truck some tongue weight can help smooth out the bumps. so it kinda goes both ways. i'd expect that tongue weight for a small moto trailer wouldnt ever get much more than a hundred pounds. its all in how you load it. an unloaded double place moto trailer is easy to pull around with one hand and lift onto a hitch by hand. well within the capabilities of a legacy. hell i could probably pull a moto trailer with my 1" reciever if I wanted to.Imprezive wrote:Cool, I figured that the total weight the hitch will have to hold is between 500-600lbs. We've got a hitch on my wife's Toyota Matrix. Can't remember what class, but only has a rated tongue weight of 100lbs max. We pull a small golfkart trailer with the bike, toolbox, ezup, etc etc. Just load the trailer where you don't have to much or too little tongue weight. Still got 22mpg+ running 80mph from GA to FL. I'd assume a legacy would pull better and stop just as well.
