Prostho sent me a link two days ago to a page about the Datsun 510.
Datsun used the same Hitachi differentials in their cars as the
Legacy does and it has information about swapping Legacy rears and
how to find out whether or not it's an LSD model.

I'll probably plagarize some of this information and put it on my
page. I attempted to ask permission, but the given e-mail address is
no longer valid.

i remember 1972 when i bought a brand new 510 for $2400 plus my old beat off Vauxhall Viva. :~D I had alot of fun with that 510, and havn't seen one in years.

Interesting page... thanks Dave.

There is a similar relationship on the Legacy auto trans... made by JATCO
(Japan Auto Trans Co... or somesuch), which is also a Nissan (Datsun)
subsidary. The Nissan and Legacy AT are almost identical with a few minor
differences.

In fact... the Legacy manual trans also shares a few common internal gear
sets with Nissan models (I guess years may vary). Intriguingly, the Nissan
version is stronger in transmission case webs, where the rear bearing of the
gear sets reside.. which is where Legacies tend to break (so I
understand...).
