So I have a pretty stout stereo setup as is...

2001 LGT Limited Stereo (Higher Quality than the WRX 6 disk)

Alpine Type R Components up front w/ 98LGT Tweeters
Alpine Type R Coaxials in the rear
All powered by an Infinty 500 watt 4 channel Amp (hella power for speakers)

I've got it all dialed in nicely too... And man does it get loud, and sound pretty clear. I love it

Today I added an Alpine CDA-9885

And OH MY FUCKING GOD... the sound quality is amazing! Sooo much better than the LGT deck, which isnt a bad one by any means, fantastic for an OEM one, but damn, the 9885 is sooo clean sounding, soo clear and crisp.

Its awesome.

Now to add a 10in Alpine Type R (or X ) Sub and Alpine V-Power Amp.

I just thought I'd share... cuz I'm stoked... its awesome...

What do you guys have for stereo stuff?

That's cool. Are you using crossovers at all? Any EQ? What helps the most is sealing the doors or whatever you have the speakers in. I have 6.5" image dynamics CX62 midbass speakers in the doors of my metro and they're sealed with sound deadener and it makes the bass response about 4X as good. It's like going from midrange speakers straight to subs. No joke.

The key is, you really need to seal off the backwave of the speaker from the front wave otherwise they cancel each other out and the music doesn't sound right and all your bass is killed.

So you need to get some sound deadener and seal up all the holes in the doors and I guarantee you it will blow you away with the difference. I went subless in my metro with those speakers alone for over a year and everyone who drove in my car asked how big my sub was.

That being said, you definately need to use crossovers, especially if you seal the doors or you will blow the speakers. EQ makes a world of difference too in tuning(the super highs especially).

With my doors sealed using those speakers which are rated at 150watts RMS @ 2 ohms I crossed them over at about 50hz 12db slope and they kicked ass! Sounded like I had a small sub in the car. I don't recommend you take Type R's that low though.

I currently run this setup and someday I'm going to finish it.

Alpine 9886 Head Unit
Alpine PXA-H701 Processor
Alpine RUX-C701 Controller
Planet Audio BB175.4 Amp
Image Dynamics CX62 6.5" Midbasses
Image Dynamics IDQ10 Sub

I also have a smaller 4 channel Clarion amp, Vifa TG9 midranges and Seas tweeters waiting to go in now for a year or so. Strapped for time and money. In order for them to go in I would have to buy more fiberglass resin and mat and build custom A pillars for them to go in and finish my custom fiberglass hatch sub enclosure.

And also figure out how to mount my amps, which is really what's holding me back.

The car is already sound deadened like crazy. Bunch of $$$ spent keeping that car quiet.

For the subaru I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm thinking about going infinite baffle in the trunk mounting 2 to 4 8" to 10" subs in the rear deck but I haven't decided. I've already got a Pioneer Premier 800PRS head unit ready to go in it! Along with a 4 channel infinity amp.
