gear ratio help! please

im looking into buying a trans from someone across the states but he doesnt know what the gear ratio is.. says its out of a japanise legacy twin turbo... help ?? thanks

The year of the car it came out of would help, as would the number on the sticker on the edge of the bellhousing. I'm willing to bet it's a 4.11 final drive though...

ok... thanks! he thinks its out of a 95.. do you think its just as strong as the 3.9 5mt? simply cant afford the sti trans at the moment and im looking for the easiest/cheapest swap since i cant find another 3.9....

It should be just as strong as your old tranny. There's a good chance it has a lot less mileage on it than the one you're replacing too.

It will go right in, but you need to check the TY number to confirm the gearing. That list^^ is not complete, there is an off chance it's a 4.44 or a 3.90. That said, it's more than likely a 4.111.
Somewhere around here I have a complete gearing chart with all the TY reference numbers that I've assembled out of various partial lists off the net. It was a PITA, but I've confirmed almost all of them up to 2006 when I compiled it. I'll dig it up.
