Picked this baby up a couple months ago, thought I'd share.

I've been quite interested in German Turbo Diesels for a while and was looking for a WVO candadate when I stumbled on this. So far the MPG is in the upper 20's. Stoked. Dont think I'm gonna convert it though, maybe just hold onto it and sell the Landcruiser to get a TDI to convert. :-D

Dude... that car is beautiful! Where did you find it?

And how much if you don't mind me asking?

And 95k miles?! That will outlast fossil fuels

The W126 was the last real S-Class. Those cars are awesome. I used to love the coupes when I was a kid. I remember seeing an aftermarket convertible that was a top notch pro job (which I couldn't say for the bodykit). I think a plain one in black or something would be in my very short list of MB's I'd own (discounting 7-figure rarities, of course). Friends of the family owned a dealership back then and I remember seeing 560's peeling tires up the street. Built like tanks, too. Yours looks brand new, which isn't hard for the materials if it's taken care of, but remarkably clean with such a light color. Very nice and at this stage in my life, the diesel beats the 560 in my mind.

Oh yeah. The gassers of this vintage are a serious PITA. CIS is nice and easy in the four banger VW flavor, but the Merc versions are ofcourse over complicated and finicy (and a surprisingly large amount of grey market 126s came over with different stuff on them that our american manualls dont include, thus making them even tougher to work on, and impossable to find parts for). The Diesels however often see 300k + without issue. I was trying to find the 603 motor in a 124 chassis, but ALL the E series had over 250 on the clock reguardless of price.

I worked for a Benz dealer in high school, and I always wanted THIS car, THIS color combo. I told my wife I would buy her a newer car when we moved and she got a job, well we did, and she got my truck. :-D

Oh man...an SDL...now we're talkin'!!!

I'm planning on building a 603 powered 300D sometime in the not too distant future...like the Dieselboost guys in Finland...

Have fun with it Kelly!! I miss my 300D now :-(

Huh, I never knew that engine code. Hearing Daimler-Benz and a "603" engine makes me nervous.

Yeah...

61* diesels are the old iron block, iron head motors (like in the W123, W115, W116 and earlier W126 chassis cars)

60* diesels are the iron block, aluminum head engines found in the W201 chassis, W124, and later W126.
