I awoke today to a wonderfully dead battery in my
Legacy, probably due to the cold weather and
stereo/alarm combination. But I was wondering what
types/amperage everyone else is using and if any is
better than an other. I appreciate the help.

Jay-

"Optima Gel Cell" or something like that... They're supposed to be the best.
The price isn't exactly right tho, starting at about $100 i believe and
going up.

Jay, I don't know how much you want to spend...but I just replaced my battery this past weekend. I bought an Optima Yellow top deep cycle spirical battery. I will tell you this....this thing is the shit. After killin my last POS battery in about 2 years, I got fed up with the battery dieing.

I did notice a pretty good difference...My stereo sounds like it used to...if not better...the car I think idles better...and has a little more power. The battery is not cheap....the cheapest I found was from summit racing, $178 that's shipped. Even in the small time I've had it....i definitely think it was worth the money.

I've got 70 amp max draw from my two amps....80/100w headlights...and a set of 55w driving lights....so my amperage draw is pretty high. My accessory lights dimmed just slightly when large bass hits before when the rpms were low.....now there is nothing....doesn't even flinch. And honestly...the power delivery from this battery is very clean and smooth. Like I said...the stereo sounds alot better...the bass hits harder...with less volume...there's less audiable clipping...and the mids and highs are alot more distinguishable.

I've heard other people with good systems say the same thing. I would definitely recommend it if you have a decent stereo system setup. Also for anyone that switched over to the underdrive pulley....I'd also recommend it due to the slower alternator revs.

Well that's my recommendation.....if you have the money...I'd definitely go for it!

Josh

I put in a battery for a VW diesel engine. They have more cold cranking amps than just about anything, good and reliable and tough.

They cold cranking amps in the max amount af power that can be supplied. The more you can afford the better, just get a good brand

My 91 legacy turbo still has the same battery that
came with it when I got the car four years ago. The
car starts up fine in the coldest weather,i'm in
Minnesota. So, it sounds kinda weird that your battery
is going so quickly.

What type of battery?
is it an automatic or manual?
Do you have a high amperage draw stereo system?

I know in my case, and Jay's case, we both had stereo systems....I'm sure that helps in suckin the life out of the battery.....who knows....

Where in Mn you at? I go to school in Kato. Anyway I
think the reason my battery went so fast is due to the
high current draw from my stereo system, the regular
battery just couldn't keep up it.

Jay, do you still go to high school? I would suggest you might own one of the faster cars among your classmates? What do the girls think of the RS?

Hehe ummm,

I now go to school at one of the University of
Minnesota schools, although I did have this car for
the last semester in high school but where I went
unfortunatley is one of the most northern red neck "I
drive a big Chevy truck" type of place so the girls
didn't understand my facination with Subaru, let alone
a sedan. I also live in the US so I only have a Legacy
Turbo Sedan not an RS.

What do you mean you "only" have a Legacy Turbo Sedan and not an RS? What is the difference between your car and my RS?
