My Legacy has 140K on it, and I was wondering when the fuel filter should be replaced.

And if you don't know the answer to that question, put it on your "To Be Done Relatively Soon" list.

Mine was done 4 years and 55 thousand KILOMETERS ago. Still OK?

If your engine's become somewhat "sputtery" upon acceleration, it may be time for a filter change.
Also when you actually do change your filter, empty the spent filter of all it's gasoline, and compare it's weight hand-to-hand to the new few filter. -If it needed changing it would have extra weight from all the crap it filtered out of the fuel.
